PEC members gather at the newly renovated Peterborough Town Library September 2021
In December of 2017, a few enthusiastic residents went before the Peterborough Select Board to propose the committee’s formation. Since we were just getting started, the Select Board members and the Town Administrator recommended that we become an informal “Ad Hoc” committee, a structure we keep to this day, allowing us to be flexible with our meeting times, places, and notifications while still assisting the town with clean energy initiatives.
After four years, our approach to our work remains consistent: Look for projects a bit ahead of the curve, research solutions, and remove barriers to their implementation. Solar panels at the high school (approved 2020, implemented December 2021), EV charging downtown (approved 2020, implemented March 2022), Community Power (town vote May 2022), electric municipal vehicles (in conversation with the PD), electric school buses, other EV charging locations, Community Solar, and supporting renewable energy plans for the Town's new fire station and DPW garage renovation. These are all clean energy initiatives for which we are early adopters and which lead the way in our region and state.
