Prospective Students

Graduate school is quite an experience ! Look at the link below and have fun

Ph.D. Comics

You will soon realize that Graduate school is a different ball game. There are some similarities, of course! You take courses and enjoy the weekends. However, gossip material will change quite significantly (p<0.05).

Your experience is very focused on your research, your adviser, peers, laboratory, and department. How to make best use of bad bargain is what you are going to learn in this long haul (3-4 years). One may say..Why bad bargain? After all I am getting degree from one of the most prestigious Institute of India.

My friend.. Story doesn't end here. It begins from here....

Doctorate work requires sustained motivation which requires clear reasons for pursuing the degree. The choice of adviser is extremely important and can make or break your entire graduate experience. I encourage you to research potential advisers carefully both in terms of interests and personality. For this reason each prospective student should visit the faculty profile and talk to them about what their research interests are and expectations from students. Very important..what trajectory students will be following during the course of PhD program and after is crucial.

Funding.......

Who can apply?

Funding your graduate program can occur in several ways.

Self Financed or Sponsored:

The ideal way is self funding through external fellowships or scholarships because you will not have time commitments for teaching or other duties, and your research can be on nearly anything you like.

TA and RA:

Limited seats are funded by the Institute through teaching assistantships (TA) and research assistantships (RA). In these cases you will need to spend part of your time assisting with teaching a class or doing research.

Project Staff:

One has to find out from the faculty if he/she has sponsored research project/s on which students can work and get salary. Usually faculty have research money available to support a limited number of students. Most of the time these projects require 3 years of commitment which is an ideal case to enroll for PhD program.

Working with me ....

I am always looking for bright motivated students who want to apply engineering knowledge to benefit the society and not just looking at their academic exercise as a means to get well paid job. Interest, motivation, academic strength and writing skills are critical.

I would rather focus on few quality students than a swarm hovering around my office looking for few moments to discuss research with me. So, ideally one new student in a semester or in a year should be good enough.

If you are interested in working with me, please email me, explaining your motivation for going to a graduate school, what you hope to accomplish while you are there, your research interests, why you are interested in working with me, and little about who you are as a person. Please include a resume or CV and an unofficial copy of your B.Tech/M.Tech transcript. See home page for contact info.
