Native American Portraits

I am constantly given photographs of Native American peoples - many of my friends know that I like to use them as reference for my work. I am drawn (literally) to the faces, which at first may seem emotionless, but when you look at the eyes you can see so much depth of character. Pride in their own strength and the strength of their people, pain of loss - family, friends, way of life - and a solemn sort of serenity that comes with the knowledge that all things change.
