Pedro Gomis-Porqueras received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin in 2001 under the supervision of Professors Bruce Smith and Scott Freeman. He has held academic positions at the University of Miami, the Australian National University, Monash University, and Deakin University, and is currently Professor of Economics at Queensland University of Technology. His research focuses on macroeconomics, with particular emphasis on monetary economics, search theory, and financial intermediation.
He is a founding member of the Search and Matching (SaM) Asia-Pacific group and the Australasian Macroeconomics Society, and a member of the Central Bank Research Association, the Macro Finance Society, the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory, and the Econometric Society. He is a regular Visiting Scholar at central banks including the Bank of Canada, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, and the Federal Reserve Banks of Philadelphia and St. Louis, and has participated in the Reserve Bank of Australia’s Academic Roundtable to support the Bank’s senior leadership. He has also served on research evaluation panels and acted as reviewer for bodies such as Excellence Research Australia, the Australian Research Council, the Icelandic Research Fund, MIT Press, and the Israel Science Foundation.
