Pedro is currently a Professor of Economics at Queensland University of Technology. His research interests are in macroeconomics, with a particular emphasis on monetary economics, search theory and intermediation.

Pedro has been a Research Evaluation Committee Member for the ERA 2018  and has been and Expert Reviewer for Excellence Research Australia for 1401, 2015; Australian Research Council, 2015, 2016; Icelandic Research Fund, 2014; MIT Press Review, 2014 and Israel Science Foundation, 2011.


Pedro received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin in 2001 under the supervision of Professor Bruce Smith and Professor Scott Freeman. He has worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at University of Miami, as an Associate Professor at Australian University and Monash University and Professor at Deakin University. He  is a regular Visiting Scholar at various Central Banks including the Bank of Canada, Reserve Bank of New Zealand and the Federal Reserve Banks of Philadelphia, and St. Louis just to name a few.

Pedro is a founding member of the Search and Matching (SaM) of the Asian Pacific group and Australasian Macroeconomic Society. He is also a member of the Central Bank Research Association, Macro Finance Society, Advancement of Economic Theory Society and Econometric Society.
