PeakHMI may shut down unexpectedly if the system mistakenly detects that the USB key has been removed. This issue often arises because, by default, Windows Server 2019 puts USB ports into sleep mode to save power. To prevent this from disrupting PeakHMI’s operation, follow these steps to disable USB power management.
Step 1: Access the Device Manager
Open the Start Menu: Click on the Start button located at the bottom-left corner of the screen.
Search for Device Manager: Type Device Manager into the search bar and press Enter.
Launch Device Manager: In the search results, click on Device Manager to open it.
Step 2: Locate the USB Controllers
Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers: In the Device Manager window, scroll down to find Universal Serial Bus controllers and click the arrow next to it to expand the list.
Identify USB Root Hubs: You will see a list of USB controllers, including items like USB Root Hub or Generic USB Hub.
Step 3: Disable Power Management for USB Root Hubs
Right-Click USB Root Hub: Right-click on the first USB Root Hub entry in the list and select Properties from the context menu.
Access Power Management Tab: In the Properties window, click on the Power Management tab.
Disable Power Saving: Uncheck the box that says Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
Apply Changes: Click OK to save the changes.
Repeat for All USB Root Hubs: Repeat the above steps for each USB Root Hub listed in the Device Manager.
Step 4: Verify Your Changes
Restart Your Server: After disabling the power management settings for all USB Root Hubs, restart your server to apply the changes.
Test PeakHMI: Ensure that PeakHMI now operates without any interruptions caused by the USB ports entering sleep mode.
By disabling USB power management on Windows Server 2019, you can prevent issues where PeakHMI shuts down due to a mistakenly detected USB key removal. This simple adjustment ensures that your USB ports remain active, allowing PeakHMI to run continuously without disruption.
