Pedro Cabral holds a PhD from EHESS, Paris, and conducted postdoctoral research at IFREMER–University of Western Brittany. From 2023 to 2026, he was Full Professor and Longshan Scholar at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST), China.

His research interests mainly focus on:

(1) the effects of climate change and extreme events on ecosystem productivity, resistance, and recovery; 

(2) the monitoring and modelling of soil organic carbon and carbon dynamics; and 

(3) the use of Earth Observation and GeoAI to monitor and understand environmental change. I integrate remote sensing, spatial modelling, and interpretable machine learning to better understand ecosystem responses to global change. 

He serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Urban Planning and Development (ASCE) and Big Earth Data (Taylor and Francis), and as an Editorial Board Member of Discover Data (Springer).
