Rose Demczar 1883
Married Thomas Patrosh in 1912. Thomas died of the Spanish Influenza in 1918, leaving Rose with three children: John (1913), Peter (March 4, 1915), and Mary (Aug 1, 1917). Balancing her work in a shirt factory in Troy, NY, Rose raised her three children solo, and never remarried. For many years, she lived on the second floor flat of a home owned by her son-in-law Howard Rosekrans and her daughter Mary (who lived on the first floor) on 23rd St in Waterveliet, NY. Rose attended the Russian Orthodox Church in Waterveliet, made homemade Russian rye bread and homemade raspberry jam, and tended to a small herb garden in her backyard. She also spent time babysitting her granddaughter Mary Lou Rosekrans (now Rosemary Adams). Rosemary remembers that Rose and she would walk together to the Russian Orthodox Church, stopping at the bakery on the way home to buy Italian bread and jelly doughnuts. Rose passed away of a heart attack in her sleep in the 1960's.
