My full name is Patrick William Donley. I was born on July 7th, 1986, and am currently 28 years old. I graduated with First Honors from Central Cambria High School in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania in 2005. While in high school, I focused the majority of my energy on advanced science courses, including Organic Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, and AP Physics.
After graduation, I enrolled at Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology with Computer Science in 2009. I also attained distinction at graduation within my department for my research into electronic medical record systems and the creation of two of my own medical record applications. I earned the highest GPA out of all of my peers in the IT/CS department that year. However, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that I could not have done that without those same individuals. Our school fostered a very team-oriented environment; I was able to help, as well as be helped, by each and every one of my classmates at some point throughout my college years.
Since college, after a two-month hiatus for my final summer vacation of, well - ever - I started working as a temporary employee, through a company in Pittsburgh, PA called Modis, for Altoona Regional Health System. Well, one thing led to another and my contract as a temporary employee got extended, and extended again. Then, I got switched to the company Siemens through Spherion in Altoona, PA, then back to Modis again, and finally, after 11 months of jumping around and renegotiating contracts, I became a permanent employee of Altoona Regional Health System.
In my position with Altoona Regional, I developed various custom reporting tools and secure web-facing portals into various applications. I wrote more Crystal Reports than I can count, became administrator of 70+ Microsoft SQL Server database servers and a few MySQL database servers, and wrote 8 major applications, including two versions of a Bed Management solution integrated with Siemens Invision, McKesson ORSOS, Picis IBEX PulseCheck, and Alpha ImageWorks 9000. Suffice it to say that I kept busy and very much enjoyed my job.
In July of 2013, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), acquired Altoona Regional Health System and the name of the facility was changed to UPMC Altoona. Soon after, I was able to purchase my very first house, located in Duncansville, PA. The following months were full of activity, from remodeling the bedroom to building a barn out back to installing a Trane Heat Pump system to keep energy costs down. Becoming a homeowner has easily been the most challenging adventure of my life so far, but I don't regret it one bit.
Back at work, as the pace of change as we began to integrate with UPMC started to speed up, it became apparent that my position as an application developer would need to eventually be moved to the Technology Development Centre, a business unit owned by UPMC where they house many different kinds of talented software developers. However, although I was made an offer to move to the Technology Development Centre, it was contingent upon moving to Pittsburgh, which I did not want to do. Not only had I just bought a house, but I simply am not a big fan of large cities. Harrisburg is about as big of a city as I feel comfortable in. Any bigger than that and I start to feel claustrophobic.
So, I started job hunting - and not long after, I found a new position as a software engineer with a nice little company in Altoona called PS Solutions. I started working for them in October of 2014 and they contracted me out to Empower Business Solutions, also in Altoona, for anywhere from 12 to 18 months. It's definitely a different ballgame from healthcare, and I'm beginning to learn the ERP system Microsoft Dynamics GP. I'd like to get back into healthcare IT someday, but we'll see where this path leads for now.
I have a beautiful fiance, Ashley, and she has a quarter horse named Sugar. We also have a black labrador named Isabelle, and four cats; Bella, Blaze, Brandi, and Sabrina. I am blessed with two sisters; Barbara and Renee, and three step-sisters; Angela, Jessica, and Lori. I also have a niece that can't seem to stop growing up named Claire.
I have been active at one time or another with a number of churches and other ministries in central Pennsylvania, including the Ebensburg United Methodist Church, the 15th Street United Methodist Church in Huntingdon, and the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, also in Huntingdon. I functioned as a certified lay speaker within the church for 3 years, and I was also a contemporary worship leader and lead guitarist for around 4 years.
I've been very active in the performing arts for just as long as I have been playing with computers and setting up information technology systems. I also enjoy dressage horseback riding, but I'm no professional in that arena. To learn more about my areas of expertise, please follow the links on the menu bar to the left.
