1st: The educational services:
A- Undergraduate Educational Services:
1. Undergraduate medical student:
We teach General and special Pathology topics for the 3rd year medical students in addition to practical application via gross and histopathological practical sessions
2. Undergraduate Dentistry students:
We teach General Pathology topics for the 2nd year Dentistry students in addition to practical application via gross practical sessions.
3. Undergraduate Pharmacy students:
We teach General Pathology topics for the 3rd year Dentistry students in addition to practical application via gross practical sessions.
B- Postgraduate Educational Services:
· We Provide postgraduates in different fields of Medicine with a Pathology course that runs via a time table declared in the department and introduced by pioneer professors in pathology.
· Post graduate seminars are held regularly every week on Wednesday at 11 O’clock according to a time schedule declared in the department.
· Our Department provides diagnostic services for researchers in different fields of medicine via ordinary stains, in addition to special stains and immunohistochemical stains.
· We also can provide the researchers with digital photos captured by recent microscopes connected to highly advanced digital cameras.
· Our staff members share in researches in different fields of medicine by supervision in addition to peer reviewing different research works.
· Researchers of our department perform highly advanced researches using the most recent techniques.
· Our department gained a funded project entitled “An immunohistochemical study for some biological markers that can be a targeted therapy in hepatocellular carcinoma in Egypt”.
3rd: Community and Health Services:
Pathology Department at Tanta Faculty of Medicine provides Diagnostic & Prognostic services for our Patients as follows:
The department of Pathology at Tanta University has the following units:
· This unit accepts all types of biopsies (incision, excision, radical, tru-cut, core biopsies or endoscopic biopsies) from all resources (external or internal).
· The specimen achieve a code number that is recorded in archives of our department, then undergo gross examination, cutting, processing, paraffin wax embedding, paraffin block cutting, glass slides preparation for ordinary staining by H&E.
· The histopathological slides are to be meticulously examined under the microscope to achieve at the end the final diagnosis and recommendations if needed.
· Finally, each specimen will be provided with a detailed pathology report that is printed at the Department and sent to the patient in addition to the soft and hard copies kept in our files.
· This unit accepts all cytology specimens from all resources (external or internal) in addition to the fine needle aspiration service acquired by the staff members in the department.
· The specimens undergo processing, staining procedures and to be examined finally under light microscope to acquire a full pathology report at the end.
· At this unit, we give a hand in provisional diagnosis of tumor behavior as a rapid preoperative procedure.
· This unit is provided with highly advanced equipments that help in making an intra-operative decision about the lesion nature and the surgical margins.
· The service is organized by direct contact between the surgeons and the staff members in our department.
· This unit provides Immunohistochemical staining of different markers as diagnostic and prognostic aid in some cases.
· The service at this unit is for cheap costs in comparison to other labs.
· The charges differ according to according to the number of markers needed.
5. Digital photography unit:
· This unit is provided by an advanced microscope connected to a highly advanced digital camera with a high resolution.
· Any slide, upon request, can be provided with any needed number of digital photos captured by pioneer staff members at our department.
· This service is for cheap fees declared at the unit.
