We are getting closer to the 2nd Annual Montvale PBA 5K, presented by Montvale Landscaping, to benefit the Pascack Valley Navigators. This year's event is Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 9AM and will host many improvements on last year's event. We'll be offering custom medals, custom bibs, chip timing, a proper finish line, great music, a paved road, a race day tech tee, plus refreshments by Harvest Moon Caterers and Stein's Bagels. We are also rolling out a new concept for this year in the way of a Virtual Event Bag. This bag will be emailed to every participant and sponsor and contains advertisements and/or coupons for our local sponsors as well as some national brand coupons.
New to this event is a separate race division for student athletes 19 and under and a division for teams. We've also added a multi-sport challenge for any child under the age of 18. It's designed to be a fun course, involving a basketball shoot, baseball throw, soccer kick, football toss, hockey shoot and some light running. The multi-sport course is free and meant to let kids have another option for fun.
We're also going to have a bounce house for kids and a dunk tank on site. We have PBA Members sitting in the tank for you to soak.
The Montvale PBA has started a tradition of donating the proceeds of all event fundraisers to local charities. The recipient of the 2013 5k was the Montvale Recreation Program. The $5,000 donation proceeds funded the fingerprint background check for their volunteers. This could not have been achieved without the runners, walkers, friends, family, volunteers and very generous donors. Thank you for your participation and making the first 5k a success.
The recipient of the 2nd Annual Montvale PBA is the Pascack Valley Navigators. The Navigators are a sports program based in the Pascack Valley and provide special needs athletes an opportunity to be coached by adult and student volunteers in baseball, basketball, soccer and track. The Montvale PBA has partnered with the Navigators in an effort to raise their enrollment, and funds to help them build their phenomenal program. They're always looking for student and adult coaches as well (no extensive knowledge of the sports is required, just a willingness to help). Montvale Girl Scout Jackie Oteri will also host a Autism awareness table to earn her Gold Award. She will be creating badges you can wear to display your support and show who you may be running for that may be affected by Autism.
