Seth's Theme Story

It was a cool spring day on the prairie in South Dakota. A cool gentle breeze blew across the grass, chilling his bones. He heard the sounds of birds chirping right outside his window. He had received a phone call from Jerry, who had told him that there was a new archeological dig in the Amazon rain forest of northeast Peru, and that he

needed to get down here as fast as fast as he could. There was a plane leaving the

International Airport of Pierre at 11:30. Indiana had to go he put the phone down,

packed his bags and got in bed.

The next morning, Indiana had gotten up, eaten breakfast, and left for the airport. He had the feeling that someone had been following him. Indiana is a twenty-seven-year- old archeologist from Pierre, South Dakota. He is a strong christian and very kind friend to Jerry. He loves history and science almost as much as golfing, even thou he’s not very good at it. He loves science fiction and wants to make a movie. When he arrived in Lima, the capital city of Peru, he had hailed a taxi, and he was stuck in traffic on his way to the helicopter pad on 44th’ Street.

The cab driver drove as fast as he could in traffic. The driver suspected this was an American. After arriving at the helicopter pad, Jerry standing there waiting

for him. They all got on the helicopter and started flying toward the dig. Indiana told Jerry about the strange feeling he had that someone was following him. When they were about one- and –a- half miles away from the dig, the pilot of the helicopter turned around and told them that if they did not abandon the expedition site, they would die. The pilot then opened the door to the helicopter and jumped out. The last thing they saw was his parachute opening as he descended.

As the helicopter began to fall out of the sky, Jerry began to pray. The helicopter crashed into the river. By God’s grace, all of the passengers were able to escape safely.

When they reached the shore, they called the police. As they waited for the police to arrive, they pondered what the pilot meant about abandoning the dig. When the police finally arrived, the detective asked them, “Do you know where the pilot is?”

“No, but that’s a good thing, because he tried to kill us by crashing the helicopter.”

“The suspect looked like a local from the area, and he had black hair and blue eyes,” offered Jerry. The group was taken to the excavation site by the police officer.

Jerry showed Indiana around the dig, including the lab and the sleeping quarters. As they approached the main dig area, they noticed that part of the ground had given way to what appeared to be a cave of some sort. Jerry suggested that an exploration of the area would be in order. Indiana retrieved a full compliment of exploring supplies, flashlights, water, some food, and a first aid kit. As the group began their descent, they noticed that they were not entering a cave but a large room made of stone.

Entering the room, their flashlight revealed a series of torches that spanned the entire space. Indiana lit one, which caused the balance of the torches to ignite in sequence.

What they saw next shocked them. As the light from the torches began to fill the room, they could see what can only be described as incredible treasure.

From golden challis, and gems of all sizes to large idols made of pure gold, this discovery would surely put them at the top of every museum’s list of desired archeologists.

As they explored, they began to make their way toward the center of the room, where they found what appeared to be a large sarcophagus. They carefully examined the inscriptions and determined that it was truly a royal Incan sarcophagus, and appeared to be the tomb of king Quin. His reign was the second longest out of all sixty-one rulers of the Incan Empire. He lived nearly three thousand years ago and conquered more land than any other ruler of his time.

Indiana pointed out that there appeared to be some scrolls in a corner next to what looked like a chest plate made of gold. Jerry suggested that they get the scientists down here to look at what they had found.

When the scientists finally arrived, hours later, they began to unroll the scrolls very carefully, allowing the aged parchment every opportunity to reveal its message intact. As they examined the ancient writing it became clear that this was a map of some sort. The map referenced a series of roads that were still in use today. However, there were other roads that appeared to have dead ends. In other words, it seemed like a road to nowhere. How could this be? Why come all this way only to be stopped by a broken map.

Later that evening Indiana was off to bed, and he was about to have a dream that would lead him to the secret of the map.

When Indiana awoke in the morning he seemed to have a sense of purpose. He skipped breakfast and immediately headed for the tent containing the scrolls. As he studied the scrolls, his mind wandered in and out of a dreamlike state that allowed him to see what was lost. Jerry was holding one of the scrolls, and as the sun shone through a hole in the tent. Indiana noticed a shadow map that appeared on the table below where Jerry was holding the scroll. Indiana said “Don’t move” and he began to trace the shadow map onto another piece of parchment. Indiana was drawing what he saw and some of what was not there at all. When he was done, the new map revealed a series of secret entrances at what had previously appeared to be dead ends. Indiana and Jerry stopped and stared at each other, trying to understand what just happened. “I guess this means we are going on an adventure” Jerry said. Indiana shook his head in total agreement.

As the two men exited the tent, they noticed some unfamiliar faces nosing around the site. Indiana felt this was not a good sign and suggested that they borrow a jeep and strike off on their own to discover the secret of the map. They slipped away, they were trying to hide their boyish excitement about the adventure that was just ahead. Unfortunately, they did not seem to notice that they had some followers just outside of view.

The first road on the map led them into the rain forest outside of the city. Part of the road was on their GPS, however, the modern map quickly lost track of their trajectory as they began to follow landmarks instead of a real road. Jerry was beginning to feel uneasy, as they eventually had to abandon their jeep. Indiana assured him that everything would be fine. Those words seem to bring little comfort as they trekked deeper into the wild.

Before they knew it, darkness was upon them. Jerry, being the good boy scout, had prepared backpacks with all that he had thought they would need for their adventure. They set up camp and ate some protein bars to help them keep their strength. As they settled in for the night, they began to plan the next day. Indiana estimated that they could cover the bulk of their journey in two days. Little did he know that their little adventure was about to take a turn for the worse.

Indiana and Jerry were awakened suddenly by an explosion. They could see a fireball that appeared to come from where they had left the jeep. They broke camp as quickly as they could and resumed the trail at a frantic pace. They followed the map as best they could given the conditions. As they ran, they came to a dead end. Indiana looked at the new map he had drawn from the shadow and realized that the only way forward was through the rock. He climbed about ten feet from the ground and found what appeared to be a lever. With a swift kick, a small hole opened up behind a large group of rocks. Indiana and Jerry were both apprehensive about entering the hole. Just then they heard the sound of men making their way toward them and both of them fought to get through the entrance into the darkness.

As the rock door closed behind them, there was a moment of silence as they waited to see if they had been located. The only sound was that of labored breathing ; Jerry switched on his headlamp and began to look around the passage. What they saw was extraordinary, Incan soldiers standing guard over a subterranean road. The entire mountain must be hollow, containing a maze of roads.

The map would undoubtedly lead them to whatever lies at the end. For, you see, they don’t even know what lies at the end. The only translation they were able to make out on the map was something about an inheritance to the nations, whatever that means. The map led them from one precarious challenge to the other. Many times that night they almost met their death. Only their knowledge in Incan culture saved their lives from the many tests set before them. As they were taking some time to recover their wits and their strength, something suddenly became clear. The cavern they were in was not a natural structure but appeared to be made of ancient building materials. This was one of the largest construction undertakings the ancient world had ever seen. Just then, they realized as well that whoever was following them was now inside the mountain. They could hear the screams of men who were falling prey to the very tests that they themselves had conquered. The mood of the two men suddenly changed, and they picked up their pace, hoping not to lose their lives in their haste. The map indicated that they were very close to the inheritance. They had noticed that the cavern seemed to have its own light source and they were able to turn off their headlamps. Jerry realized that they had reached the end of that map and were in a panic because it seemed like a dead end.

What happened next was a challenge to their senses. Rocks from the floor began to hover and move about on their own. Indiana and Jerry were trying to figure out how this was part of the quest. Then it occurred to Indiana, that this was a very normal occurrence. If the materials used in the construction of this cavern were iron ore, it’s possible that magnetic fields could be naturally occurring and that the Incans would have known this and used this as the last part of the puzzle. Indiana declared, “We must find a stone with an opposite magnetic pole and that will help us find our way out”.

As they searched for the correct stone a group of men approached them, led by one of the scientists who was responsible for helping preserve all that they had found thus far. The group of men came closer and closer and closer. As they did, the magnetic fields began to fluctuate wildly, sending larger and larger boulders flying off in all directions. With each passing moment, more people were being crushed by the large boulders, it was only a matter of time before Indiana and Jerry also met their demise.

Just then, Jerry found the rock that he had been looking for. With great haste he moved all remaining obstacles, including what turned out to be a large boulder that was blocking their way into the inheritance room. When they had crossed over the threshold of the new room, all of the rocks fell to the ground, crushing anything that was in their way.

Entering the new room, they were now able to see where the light was coming from. A rock formation in the center of the cavernous room seemed not only to give off light but also seemed to resonate like a note that was being played on a piano. The closer they came to the formation, the more their bodies were aware of the harmonious frequency that made their skin feel like a thousand ants were crawling all over them.

As they walked around the formation, they could not see a way to enter. Had they come all this way to be stopped now? No sooner had the question been asked, when all of their equipment seemed to come to life on its own. Indiana said, “The power being generated by this amplifier is staggering!” Indiana did not realize how correct his use of the word “amplifier” was. Jerry was now starting to put it all together. The entire structure seemed to be built directly over an anomaly in the Earths magnetic field, allowing the creation of vast amounts of free and endless energy. “That must be why our flashlights, even though the batteries were dead, came to life on their own”, said Jerry. Indiana added that that he thought something about the entire structure made it possible for this devise to resonate energy so freely. Jerry stopped in his tracks and said, “Do you know where the scientists that have been working on this project are from?” Indiana shook his head and asked, “Where were they from?” “EnTech, a global energy company.” Indiana said, “That name is the same name that was on the side of the helicopter that was chasing us.”

As the two men were putting this all together, a voice came from behind them. “Bravo, gentlemen, but you will not live long enough to tell anyone.” The man stepped into the soft light projected by the amplifier and revealed himself. It was Roger Cunningham, the head of the scientific team from the University of Cambridge. He had been with them since the initial discovery of the map, and the one who had said that the map showed nothing.

Indiana was furious, and he told Cunningham he not would stand by and allow EnTech to rob the world of one of God’s gifts to mankind. Cunningham laughed, as all evil men do, and said, “I will destroy this amplifier, as you call it, and the world will continue to be enslaved to EnTech.” Not sure what to do, and seeing no way out, Indiana said a quiet prayer. As Indiana had his head bowed, Cunningham instructed all of his men to fire their weapons at the amplifier. The last thing he rememberd was the loud sound of gunfire and then a vibration that had made his very soul feel like it was coming apart.

When he awoke, he saw the twisted remains of the weapons that the men had been holding, but only parts of the men remained. It looked like their bodies had been unraveled, leaving arms and legs but no torsos. Indiana wondered to himself, “ Did God answer my cry for help?” Indiana and Jerry made their way out of the main cavern, and using the power radiated from the amplifier, they alerted the authorities. Within no time at all, the US Army and the federal Department of Energy arrived on site to secure their discovery.

Later that day, the President of the United States called them to congratulate them on a discovery that would change the course of human history. Indiana replied, “thank you Mr. President I can only hope that this blessing will bring freedom to all of mankind.” Hanging up the phone, Indiana reflected on the events that led to that moment. He said a prayer of thanks and called to Jerry,” Let’s go we have work to do”, and with they the men were off to see that their discovery would benefit all of mankind.
