Nitrate solutions of the alkaline earth metals were used. They were reacted with potassium chromate, potassium carbonate, and potassium sulfate. Three drops of each solution was used.
The order of which substance was added first was not an important factor.

The reaction with magnesium nitrate with the potassium carbonate had a precipitate, although not very pronounced.
