Our Leadership Team is made up of qualified, properly trained, and dedicated adults, approved by our chartered organization, Cool Spring Baptist Church, who are passionate about guiding our scouts on their journey through Cub Scouts. Each leader brings unique skills, experiences, and a commitment to fostering growth, adventure, and learning for our Pack 521 scouts. We are proud of and grateful for our parent volunteers who give of their time and talents to lead our Pack to success.

Pack Leadership
Adam Scharl, Cubmaster
As a youth, Adam earned his Arrow of Light and the rank of Star Scout with Pack/Troop 29 in Cetronia, PA. He joined Pack 521 as a Scouter in 2020 and has since served as a Den Leader for the Wolf through Webelos dens, coordinating various pack activities along the way. In 2023, Adam completed his Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) training and earned the Den Leader Award. He has served as the Assistant Cubmaster and is now stepping into the role of Cubmaster! Adam is excited to continue planning and leading fun, engaging activities that help our scouts learn and live by the Scout Law. Pack 521 is thrilled to welcome Adam into his new role and looks forward to the energy and dedication he brings to our scouting community!
Rebecca Giese, Pack Committee Chairperson
Rebecca Giese is beginning her seventh year of leadership with Pack 521, guiding her children, Aiden, and Lilliana, through the Cub Scout and Troop programs. Passionate about nature, science, and spending quality time with family, Rebecca also enjoys various arts and crafts. She earned her BSME degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT in Illinois and has approximately nine years of experience in the nuclear industry as an Operator and Emergency Preparedness planner. In addition to her role as Pack Committee Chairperson, Rebecca serves as the Membership Coordinator, Tiger Assistant Den Leader, and Popcorn Kernel. We are elated to have Rebecca's extensive experience and enthusiasm as a key part of our leadership team!

Cindy Loinette, Advancement Chairperson
Cindy has been with Pack 521 for a few years and enjoys spending time with her family at the many events they attend. She has been serving as Advancement Chair for 1 year and will continue through 2026 when her son will move to the Troop. She is excited to show someone new how to make our fun award packages!
Chuck Hurd, Charter Organization Representative
Chuck serves the Pack as our Charter Organization Representative. A Life Scout in his youth, he remains an Order of the Arrow Brotherhood Member. He has been involved with Pack 521 since 1999, when he moved to Mechanicsville from Tidewater, Virginia, serving as a Den Leader for each rank. Both of his sons, Jacob and Stephen, progressed through Pack 521 and ultimately each achieved the rank of Eagle with Troop 521. Chuck served as our Pack Committee Chairperson from 2000 to 2009. He and his wife, Laura, enjoy traveling and boating on Lake Anna. Chuck currently serves as the Committee Chairman for Troop 521 as well as the Battlefield District Finance Friends of Scouting Committee. He and his family are active members of Cool Spring Baptist Church. We are thankful for Chuck's continued dedication and service to our scouting community.

Webelos Den Leader - WE NEED YOU!!
Pack 521 is looking for a dedicated volunteer to step into the role of Webelos Den Leader. This important position involves guiding our Webelos Scouts through their adventures and fostering an engaging, supportive environment. You’ll have the support of an Assistant Den Leader and will lead preplanned activities that are ready for delivery. If you have a passion for working with young people, enjoy organizing activities, and want to make a meaningful impact, we need you! Join us in making a difference for our Webelos Den. Interested? Derek Larimer, AOL Den Leader
Derek is excited to join our Leadership Team as the Den Leader for the Webelos Den, where his son is a member. A former Scout from southwest Virginia, Derek has made Mechanicsville his home for the past seven years. He is the father of two sons, Samuel and William. In his free time, Derek enjoys playing music, including old-time tunes on his fiddle, conjunto music on his accordion, and also plays the guitar and banjo. Additionally, he spends time building and carving in his woodshop. We’re thrilled to have Derek’s diverse skills and enthusiasm on board!
Amy Thomas, AOL Assistant Den Leader
Amy has been an integral part of our Leadership Team as the Assistant Den Leader for the Bears, Webelos, and now AOL Den where her son is a member. A former Girl Scout and sibling of an Eagle Scout, Amy brings a wealth of experience to her role. In her free time, Amy enjoys reading, spending time at the beach, and growing native plants. She also finds joy in her career in social work and mental health.
