About Us

The Mission

Since its beginning, the Cub Scout program has been a fun and educational experience concerned with values. Besides providing a positive place where kids can enjoy safe, wholesome activities, Cub Scouting focuses on building character, improving physical fitness, teaching practical skills, and developing a spirit of community service.

The Pack

A Cub Scout Pack is made up of Dens, or smaller groups of kids all of the same age and/or grade level. The Dens are identified by rank:

DEN MEETINGS

While many Scouts begin their journey as Lions or Tigers, children are welcome to join Pack 44 at any age. Each Scout is part of a den, which typically meets three times a month at the church. During den meetings, Scouts work on rank adventures, earn elective awards, prepare activities for pack meetings, and participate in hands-on projects and games. Dens may also enjoy special outings and field trips throughout the year, giving Scouts even more opportunities to learn, explore, and have fun together.

PACK MEETINGS

Once per month during the school year (September to May), all the Dens meet together as a Pack. The Cubmaster leads the Pack Meeting, which has been planned and organized with the help of the Pack Committee. The Pack Committee consists of all the Den Leaders, plus other adults who help run things "behind the scenes" for the Pack. Pack meetings often follow a theme, and are usually held at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, although sometimes they are held at other locations.

ACTIVITIES

The Pack also organizes activities outside of den and pack meetings, usually about one every 1-2 months. Past activities have included overnights at a Hershey Bear's game, Museum trips for earning belt-loops, and other overnight or one-day outings.  The PA Dutch Council also sponsors events for all the Packs in the region, such as the Breakfast Hike at Camp Mack, Council Camporee, and Klondike Derby.

ADVANCEMENT

Each May, Scouts move on to the next rank level and begin a new set of exciting adventures. Every rank has its own badge and activities designed to help Scouts learn new skills, build confidence, and have fun. New members start by earning the Bobcat badge, which teaches the basics of Cub Scouting and its values. After completing Bobcat, Scouts continue working toward the rank that matches their grade level.

During the summer, Pack 44 keeps the fun going with at least one pack activity each month. While regular den and pack meetings take a break, families can still enjoy opportunities to get together, stay connected, and continue the adventure throughout the summer.
