About

Ottman Forestry Consultants Inc. was founded in 1995 by John Ottman. John is a third generation Missoula native and received his degree in forestry from the University of Montana in 1979. Early in his career with Champion International and later with White Pine Sash, John displayed the desire for excellence and innovation in silviculture. Those interests fully developed in the mid-1990's when John was the first to use and promote cut-to-length (CTL) harvesting and forwarding systems in Montana. John's goal was to utilize equipment that allowed the highest level of "light on the land" and "no new road building". Thus, John has been a leader in practicing forestry that emphasizes what trees to leave rather than what trees to take. Developing silvicultural prescriptions of uneven aged management, with low impact harvesting and log marketing direct to the mills, has allowed Ottman Forestry Consultants Inc. to build this great company.
