Transport options from Cancun Airport

Cancun is one of the most exciting places to visit on holiday in the Mexican Riviera. It attracts millions of visitors from across the world and is one of the most visited beach destinations in the world. Visitors fly into The Cancun International Airport upon arrival and proceed from there to their destinations.

There are a number of transport options to travel from the airport:

Most travelers to Cancun arrange travel through airport transfer services using their hotel, online travel agents or tour operators. All you need to do is to pre arrange best Cancun airport cab transfers through Oscar Cancun Shuttle which is available online. It helps to save money as you book directly without having to pay commission to the tour operator or hotel. Apart from being more cost-effective, it is also more comfortable as you can be assured of having transport and a driver available for you when you arrive at the airport. Finding them is not an issue as they will hold a placard bearing your name at the exit so all you need to do is locate them. You then get to travel directly to the airport with no additional stops. If you are travelling in a large group it is the most cost effective.

If there is one or two of you a better option is to take a shared shuttle. When you use the one-person airport shuttle there are no more than two stops before you reach the hotel.

There is the bus or collective that travels on a daily basis from the airport terminal to the Hotel Zone. The bus network is very good and runs all 24 hours at intervals of 1-2 hours. It is cheap for 1 to 2 passengers, although most travelers prefer to opt for an airport shuttle. Travel by bus means you would have to wait at the designated bus stop till the bus arrives. Remember this is a tropical region so the heat is unbearably humid. After the bus arrives it will be crammed with other travelers. Also, it only departs when the bus is totally occupied. Along the route, it makes several stops and it can take a rather long time to make it to your hotel. Added to that, the idea of lugging your baggage around to and from the bus stop is not very appealing.

Those who stay out of the Cancun area prefer to rent a car. If your hotel is in the Cancun area there really is no need to rent one unless you plan to go on excursions of the surrounding areas. While the rental rates for cars are quite cheap at about $20 a day, it is mandatory to buy travel insurance as per the Mexican law.

While taxis are available they are rather expensive to hire. The drawback is that they are not permitted to collect airport pickups, but they can drop you to the airport. However, airport transfers fall far cheaper than opting to hire a taxi. If you are willing to spend extra then you could hire a taxi to explore the town or travel back to the airport.
