This mini project was inspired by a website called RADIO GARDEN
"By bringing distant voices close, radio connects people and places. From its very beginning, radio signals have crossed borders. Radio makers and listeners have imagined both connecting with distant cultures, as well as re-connecting with people from ‘home’ from thousands of miles away. Radio Garden allows listeners to tune into live radio across the entire globe."

Aim of the project:
to teach EFL pupils to write a report in English about a radio station anywhere on the globe.
to use the topic of geography and global awareness as a springboard for conversation and doing research on the internet.
to listen to authentic materials in English on the radio.
Instructions: (This activity can be done individually or in groups)
Go to RADIO GARDEN site. Browse the stations and then choose one by clicking a green spot anywhere on the globe.
Copy the information about the spot you have chosen. You can see it in the bottom left corner of the screen. For example, 08:09 am PORTO PORTUGAL.
If you wish to search for a station, click the search icon in the top left corner of the screen.
Copy the information about the radio station for the spot you chose. You can see it in the top right corner of the screen. For example, radionova.fm
Listen to the radio station you chose for about five minutes. Now answer these questions about the radio station you chose.
What did you hear on the radio station? (Name of song, language, etc.)
Find out some facts about the place you chose. What country is it in? What continent? What is the capital city of that country?
Pupils choose one aspect to do deeper research. For example, politics, demography, culture, music, food. Their report should include at least one image.
