Dr M L Garza-Gonzalez Charter School

Why Use Us!

We love chess and love helping kids build their chess skills.  We provide multiple opportunities for kids to play chess.

We are now able to help support kids who need financial assistance to play in our tournaments.  We have created a form to be filled out.  This support is to help kids attend some local and near by State Tournaments!  This is all because of generous donations and support!

We are a group of volunteers.  Each of us volunteering for different reasons; some love chess, some love our kids who love chess, and others because they understand the benefits chess has on a child.

Each month we make efforts to host at least one chess event.  We also work with other organizations and schools to make this possible.  Besides hosting chess tournaments, we also participate in the Marina District ArtWalk, where we set up two table of chess boards and allow open play with our regular kids, with a friend, or provide lessons in chess all for free!  We are also working on an exciting event for National Chess Day!

We are also working with the Oak Park Chess Club's organizer Rey to promote chess for all ages, adults too, in his open tournaments.  He has generously given us these opportunities allowing the OCBCF to meet the required 25 games to increase our level of Tournament Directors.  Plus, a portion of last tournament entry fees were donated to the OCBCF.

Our Experience Shows!

The OCBCF has been hosting a monthly chess tournament during the school year for over ten years!  We cannot wait to continue the tradition this year!

We are led by our president who has several years of experience in the OCBCF as a Tournament Director, officer, and volunteer.

Our team is mostly comprised of parents looking to increase the number of chess opportunities and kids playing in our local tournaments.

We are supported by an amazing group of advisors, past board members and founders, who answer our questions and give advice.  Without them we would be lost.
