Courses taught and designed by me

I have written and taught three novel courses, one bachelor-level course in behavioral and experimental economics, one master's level course on research methods in economics, and one course on applied microeconomics.

SOK 3012 Research methods in economics

This subject teaches students the classic philosophy of science, how to use modern labor econometric methods to identify causal relationships and the scientific philosophy of experimental economics. In the course, students analyze published economics papers that combine theory and empirical methods.  The course also presents challenges in concluding from a large set of different data.

SOK-2012  Economic incentives
In this subject, the student learns to understand how people respond to incentives in simple strategic situations. The subject is based on behavioral economic theories for how human thinking and behavior in some situations systematically deviate from the rational in predictable ways. We also look at understanding, the relationship between utility in the present and the future, and, classic biases in decision-making. Furthermore, it is discussed how economic experiments are used to map human behavior. The subject has three parts. Part one develops an understanding of rationality and a breach of rationality. Part two deals with a set of theories and findings that categorize systematic violations of rationality. Part three deals with experimental economics.

SOK 3003   Topics in microeconomics: Game theory and experimental economics

The subject teaches the student to use microeconomics to structure a research question. We mainly draw examples from game theory of legitimacy and experimental economic analysis of fairness views. Finally, we look at how one goes from structuring the question to testing the theory. We look at empirical methods from experimental economics (treatment analysis), labor economics (diff-in-diff), and analyzing statistical distributions. The course emphasizes critical thinking about how theory can help draw logical conclusions from data.
