Ballistics Testing of .22 Long Rifle Ammunition

Remington Golden Bullet .22 LR HP 36-gr (1280 fps / 131 ft-lbs [rifle]; 1089 fps [CCI: 6" handgun])

vs.

CCI Mini-Mag .22 LR RN 40-gr (1255 fps / 140 ft-lbs [rifle]; 1060 fps [CCI: 6" handgun])

THE TEST: 100 rds of .22 LR HP 36-gr (Remington Golden Bullet) and 100 rds of .22 LR RN 40-gr (CCI Mini-Mag)

were fired through a 2" barrel J-Frame-sized revolver at both single and double (bolted-together) 2x4 boards.

SINGLE 2x4 BOARD PENETRATION

Only 67 of 100 rds (67%) of .22 LR HP 36-gr (Remington Golden Bullet) fired from a 2" barrel J-Frame-sized revolver penetrated through a single 2x4 board

All 100 of 100 rds (100%) of .22 LR RN 40-gr (CCI Mini-Mag) fired from a 2" barrel J-Frame-sized revolver penetrated through a single 2x4 board.

DOUBLE (BOLTED-TOGETHER) 2x4 BOARD(S) PENETRATION

Only 13 of 100 rds (13%) of .22 LR HP 36-gr (Remington Golden Bullet) fired from a 2" barrel J-Frame-sized revolver penetrated through the first 2x4 board of a double (bolted-together) 2x4 board(s)

Exactly 92 of 100 rds (92%) of .22 LR RN 40-gr (CCI Mini-Mag) fired from a 2" barrel J-Frame-sized revolver penetrated through the first 2x4 board of a double (bolted-together) 2x4 board(s).

NOTE: None of the 100 rds of .22 LR HP 36-gr (Remington Golden Bullet) or 100 rds of .22 LR RN 40-gr (CCI Mini-Mag) fired through the J-Frame-sized revolver penetrated completely through the second of the double (bolted-together) 2x4 board(s)!

FINDINGS: The .22 LR HP 36-gr (Remington Golden Bullet) penetrated MUCH LESS OFTEN into the second of the double (bolted-together) 2x4 board(s) than did the .22 LR RN 40-gr (CCI Mini-Mag) when fired through the 2" barrel J-Frame-sized revolver!
