Volunteers play a critical role in the OBX MMSN. Volunteers help by investigating reports of stranded marine mammals and communicating the species, size, condition, and specific location to help biologists prepare for their response. Volunteers are often the first on scene at live strandings and are important in making the animal as comfortable as possible while on the beach. Volunteers also help assess and monitor hauled-out seals that regularly visit during the winter.
