June Sub-Interns
June Sub-Interns
My name is Stephanie Balint, and I am a Sub-Intern visiting from Frank H. Netter School of Medicine in Connecticut. Though I enjoy learning about all facets of Emergency Medicine, I particularly gravitate toward operations, and how systems use evidence and teamwork to continuously improve the experiences of both patients and colleagues. Outside of school I enjoy practicing yoga, weightlifting, and crafting of all types from knitting to baking.
Hi, my name is Meylakh (he/him, pronounced “Malick”), and I’m a Sub-Intern visiting from Brown University. I’m a non-traditional medical student with a background in computer science—I spent seven years working in industry before pivoting to medicine. I’m especially passionate about the intersection of emergency medicine with informatics and healthcare operations. Outside of medicine, I’m the lucky (and occasionally overwhelmed) owner of a manageably anxious hound named Murphy, who takes up a good chunk of my free time. I also enjoy trying new foods, cooking, watching TV, karaoke, and going on “walk and talks” with friends. I’m excited to be back in NYC after five years away!
Hi! My name is Callista Clairmont, and I am a sub-intern from Weill Cornell. I grew up in West Virginia and went to West Virginia University for undergrad where I majored in Spanish. I am interested in exploring a variety of fields in EM, including wilderness medicine, disaster medicine, and addiction medicine. Outside of the hospital, I enjoy rock climbing, whitewater sports, and arts and crafts. I am really looking forward to this rotation, and I particularly hope to gain experience with as many procedures as possible.
My name is Tin and I’m a sub-intern visiting from Cornell. My professional interests lie at the intersection between health equity and quality improvement. Outside of school, I enjoy listening to music, trying out different coffee shops across the city, and running loops in Central Park. My most fulfilling experiences during my clerkship year occurred in the ED, so I’m excited to return to the department to continue my training.
My name is Elyse Gonzales and I am a Sub-Intern from Weill Cornell. Professionally, I'm passionate about LGBTQ+ and community health, with a focus on how emergency medicine can serve as a critical access point for vulnerable populations. Outside of medicine, I love practicing martial arts (taekwondo and goju-ryu), exploring NYC museums, and going to jazz-adjacent concerts. I'm excited to join the team and look forward to learning from everyone during my time here!
My name is Silvano and I am a Sub-Intern from Weill Cornell. I am a first-generation, Mexican American student originally from a small farming town in Northern California. I am interested in health equity and improving the care of Spanish-speaking and immigrant patients and have worked on community-engaged research at the Mexican Consulate in NYC. In my personal time, I follow NBA games closely and collect old Pokemon cards. I greatly enjoyed my 2 weeks on Emergency Medicine during my core rotations and am excited to return and meet more EM physicians!
My name is Ifeoma Ifediba, and I am a Sub-Intern visiting from Washington University in St. Louis. My professional interests are in global health, care of the underserved, and quality improvement. In my free time, I like to stay active by biking and playing basketball. I also enjoy reading fiction and hearing live music.
My name is Avery McGuirt, and I am a Sub-Intern from Columbia Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. I have fallen in love with the exceptional breadth of emergency medicine, but my particular academic and professional interests lie at the intersection of substance use, housing precarity, and EM. I help lead the harm reduction initiative Columbia Care Access Project, and am involved with research on linkages to addiction care from the ED and inpatient units. Outside of medicine, I am a lifelong violinist, avid gardener, and eager but terrible basketball player. I am excitedly looking forward to applying into emergency medicine this fall and the opportunity to immerse myself in the ED this month!
My name is Sumaya, and I am a Sub-Intern visiting from Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar. I plan to pursue EM for residency. I’m interested in critical care, pediatric EM, and medical education. In my free time, I like visiting museums, reading books, and finding new music. My most recent music find was the Teskey Brothers who make sort of blues-y rock music. I can’t wait to meet everyone and get working!
My name is Shane Pathania, and I am a Sub-Intern from Weill Cornell Medical College. I’m interested in emergency medicine with a focus on global health and health systems in resource-limited settings. Outside of medicine, I’m a musician and producer, and I love surfing whenever I get the chance. I’m really looking forward to learning from you all and being part of the ED team this month!
My name is Alex and I am a Sub-Intern visiting from Columbia. I’m interested in Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics, and have recently started Medical Education research as well. Outside of academics, I spend my time watching and playing sports, rollerskating, and barbering. I am so excited to continue to explore the field of Emergency Medicine as a sub-intern under the guidance of dedicated residents and faculty.
My name is David Sprott. I am a student at Weill Cornell conducting a Sub-Internship in Emergency Medicine. My professional interests include access to care, mentorship, patient education, and quality improvement. My hobbies include boxing, distance running, kayaking, and traveling. I am eager to become immersed in Emergency Medicine at my home institution and grow in my clinical skills and knowledge!
My name is Brendan and I am a sub-intern from Weill Cornell. I am interested in a career in academic medicine focused on medical education, and I am strongly considering a fellowship either in sports medicine or critical care. In my free time, I like to do martial arts (mostly Taekwondo or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) or unwind with a video game.
My name is Sam and I am a Sub-Intern from Weill Cornell. I am interested in Pediatric EM and working on QI initiatives to eliminate disparities in care delivery. On my own time, I enjoy trying out different fitness activities/classes around the city, reading, and eating good food. Looking forward to meeting everyone this month!
