Insurance Adjusters

Post date: Jun 29, 2011 3:03:00 PM

An individual employed by a insurance company to evaluate losses, negotiate with contractors and automotive shops, and settle policyholder claims. Not to be confused with public adjusters, who negotiate with insurance companies on behalf of policyholders, and receive a size-able portion of a claims settlement. Many insurance companies use independent adjusters as well. Independent adjusters are contractors who adjust claims for several different insurance companies based on each companies claims guidelines.

Less than 5% of the U.S. population will go through life without ever having been involved in an insurance claim of some sort, therefore you will most likely interact with an insurance adjuster sooner or later. Insurance adjusters are not bad people. They live in your neighborhood, go to the same grocery stores as you, and even purchase the same insurance from NY insurance brokers as you. If you do not agree with an insurance claim settlement, keep in mind that it may not be the fault of the adjuster. I've been good friends with Kingston NY insurance adjuster for fifteen years, he does not bite.
