There are several jobs page that need to be combined and better organized!
Research Assitant for D'Amore-McKim Faculty. Pinshuo Wang has worked with Prof. Karthik Krishnan. Amy Ma (Qiaoling Ma) has worked with Prof. Kevin Boudreau.
Research Assistant for Public Policy faculty. Alicia Sasser Modestino, who has a joint appointment with economics, is a labor economist who hires economics PhD students and might help by providing our students with other leads.
Teaching opportunities exist in the summer in the College of Professional Studies and in our department. In both cases students are instructors for their own course. Several of our students have done this, including most recently Arvind, Rizwan, and Tuan. Students with good teaching ratings in recitations are given top priority for these teaching opportunities.
Research Assisant in economics. Faculty with grants may hire students during the year, though typically in place of teaching assistantships. Faculty with grants or other resources also hire students part time in the summer. Prof. Dana, Dickens, Triest, and Prina all have done so in the past (and of course Prof. Modestino listed above under Public Policy).
Academic jobs in the US.
Tenure track jobs in economics are extremely competitive. Every year one or two of our students get tenure-track jobs.
Tenure-track jobs are also available to economists in business schools, public policy schools, public health schools, environmental policy/forestry schools, and other university policy groups.
Non tenure-track jobs that emphasize teaching are available as well. Students competing for these jobs should plan to have teaching experience as 'Instructor of Record' and strong teaching ratings. Students can be instructor of record for micro and macro, particular during the summer terms at Northeastern.
Academic Jobs outside US.
Private sector economics jobs.
Economics consulting. There are many firms that provide legal support services and other types of consulting. Big ones are Compass Lexecon, Charles River Associates, and Cornerstone. But there are dozens more.
Management consulting. This is much less common for economics PhD students, but companies like Bain, McKinsew, and BCG do hire economics PhDs now and then.
