Looe BD (Turkry Trot)
The last event of 2025 is the annual Turkey Trot at Looe Bin Down, on Friday24th October, 2025.
This secretary is now taking names for this golf day, so if you didn't get your name down on the list at Bowood Park but would like to participate please contact him (contact details on home page) ASAP.
This event is 27 holes and open to non-memebers as well as member. You are encouraged to bring a prize (bottle of wine/Tin biscuits etc) to add to the numerous prizes available on the day.
Bowood Park
Our September golf day was played under grey skies at a lush Bowood Park with 18 golfers taking part.
The morning was won by Tom Body with a great score of 35 points and so winning the Andy Cowl Scratch trophy with 29 points, second was Ricky Shazell pipping Ian Donald on count back over the last 3 holes with 32 points each.
The afternoon team event (scoring 1 to count on Par 3's, 2 on Par 4's & 3 on Par 5's) was won by Roy Turner, Malc Lyons and Nick Fry with 68 points
Nearest the pin on the 162-yard 6th hole was won by Steve Wilkinson who hit is driver to win the prize. Only one 2 was scored all day Mark Lashbrook getting it on Hole 14 in his afternoon round.
St Pierre - 45th Anv
A great 45th Anniversary trip was had by all at St Pierre. 32 golfers (pictured above) enjoyed a hot sunny weekend at a great venue, with two golf courses, leisure facilities, and good food.
Day 1 saw a 4 ball (2 scores to count) team event being played on the old course which was won on countback by Tom Body, Bob Wearne, Mark Lashbrook and Paul Burchell with 78 Points.
Day 2 was a pairs event on the Mathern course won by Barry Moran and Chairman Mike Cusack with 42 points with Martin Moore and John Harris second on 39 points.
Day 3 was the NGS Individual Champion Trophy day won on the old course with a fantastic score of 42 points by Paul Burchell, from Chris Preston on 38 points, Tom Body was 3rd with 34 points.
Day 4 the final day saw a Texas Scramble on the Mathern course won by Andy Field, Lee Wearne, Mark Lashbrook and Barry Moran with a net score of 53
The Overall winner was Paul Burchell with a weekend combined score of 76.5, second was Chris Preston 75.5 points, Barry Moran was third with 72.5 points and John Harris 4th with 71.75 points.
The lost ball comp. for the weekend was won by Tony Brown whose guess of 220 was the nearest to the total balls lost which was 248! Brian Bignell won the box of old beat up balls, losing 30 in total, with Steve Bashford and Ian Donald closes to him with 14 apiece.
Some great memories were made with Captain Nigel Pope conducting the usual fines and being particularly harsh on some who had hidden his clothes away whilst he was swimming….
Thurlestone
A very hot sunny day greeted the 18 NGS golfers to a glorious Thurlestone in perfect conditions. With no defending champion playing, the Colin Kent shield was claimed by Jamie Reynolds making his second NGS appearance, pipping Mark Lashbrook on countback, both scoring a great 39 points. Ian Donald was third with 36 points. Both Mark and Ian's round would have been even better if they had been able to play off their full playing handicap - both were restricted to 18 as this was the Colin Kent shield.
The afternoon team event was a Texas Scramble with 5 drives each playing for the Lew Thomas trophy. Winning with a score of 58.6 were Pete Lyons, Malc Lyons and Jason Bellison. The nearest the pin was won on debut by Joe Butson on the 17th this also resulted in the only 2 of the day. The players retired hot and exhausted to the refuge of the clubhouse for some well-deserved food and maybe a few drinks.
Honiton
The second golf day of 2025 took place at a hot and sunny Honiton golf club with 22 golfers taking part. Three old gits led the way with Gregg Secker retaining the Compton shield winning on countback from Roy Turner with 37 points, Captain Nigel Pope was 3rd with 36 points, Gregg did mention how pleased his wife would be to welcome the return home of the shield. The afternoon 3-man team event with 2 scores to count on each hole this was won by Captain Nigel Pope, John Harris and Graeme Collings scoring 76 points. Nearest the pin was won by Ricky Shazell on the 2nd hole but he did not get his 2. Only one 2 was recorded all day that by Steve Wilkinson on the 2nd who won all the balls. The golfers retired to the clubhouse for some good food, prize giving's and to await Captain Pope's judgments on the day.
NGS 45th Anv @ St Pierre
The balance payment (£300) for those attending the NGS 45th Anniversary at St Pierre GC in August is required by 31st May 2025. Please refer to the email sent out or contact Malc Lyons for NGS account details.
Dainton Park
A great day to start the 45th NGS year in glorious May sunshine with 22 golfers taking part. The morning round was a tight affair with 2 scores of 38 points leading the way, the winner Graeme "Worzel" Collings retaining the Vic Easton trophy from Pete Lyons on countback, Ricky Shazell was 3rd with 35 points. The afternoon 3-man team event consisted of 3 for 3's 2 for 4's and 1 for 5's the winners with a great score of 74 points was Andy Foster, Brian Mitchell and Raj Patel. Nearest the pin was played for on the 4th hole at Dainton with the pin right at the back the winner being Paul Libby who apparently was 2" from an ace. Golfers retired to the clubhouse for some great food with new Captain Nigel Pope in "fine" form.

NGS 45th Anniversary
The 45th Anniversary will take place in August 2025 at St Pierre. Therefore the August NGS golf day will take place during this weekend. Details of this weekend can be found by visiting the website page and following the link(s) for all information.
This golfing weekend is still open, but the secretary requires deposits to be paid by 30th November 2024 to secure your place!
2024 - AGM
The 2024 AGM was held at the Plympton Conservative Club on Wednesday 13th November, where 15 members attended. 2023 AGM minutes were accepted and the committee were re-elected en-block. Next years courses were voted on with Honiton, Thurlestone, Dainton Park and Bowood Park selected for 2025 along with the August venue at St Pierre for the 45th Anniversary. Looe was again chosen for the Turkey Trot. Nigel Pope was elected as the 2025 Captain and he has nominated Ricky Shazell as his Vice Captain.
Looe (Turkey Trot)
The final golf day of 2024 took place at Looe with 23 golfers competing in the traditional turkey trot in very blustery conditions. The winner on the day was Steve Wilkinson winning the turkey trot for the second successive year and claiming the Pete Fisher memorial trophy with 59 points. Mark Harrison was second with 51 points and Ricky Shazell third on 50 points. Nearest the pin was won by Roger Jenkins on the 1st hole (all scores can be found on the venue page).
The old gits trophy was presented to Pete Lyons and the Victor Ludorum to Nick Fry before the normal grand turkey trot draw which this year was dominated by Bob Wearne collecting numerous prizes from the table. The Vice captain Nigel Pope thanked everyone for their support throughout the year.
Bowood Park
The fifth day of the year took place at Bowood Park golf club in bright sunny weather. The morning round was dominated by a pride of Lyons, Pete and Malc coming first and second in the stableford competition with 36 and 35 points respectively. They both failed to win the main prize of the day the Andy Cowl scratch trophy that was won with 25 points by Graham Hall who pipped Tom Body by a point. The afternoon team event was also won by Graham Hall with the help of Brian Mitchell and Mark Lashbrook with a score of 74 points playing a pink ball format. Nearest the pin was won by Nick Fry on the 6th hole, he also managed to join the NGS hall of fame with an ace on the 2nd hole.
Dainton Park
The Fourth NGS golf day of 2024 took place in sunny hot conditions at the lovely Dainton Park golf club. The morning round competing for the individual champions shield was won by Ian Donald with a great 39 points, Steve Wilkinson was second with 37 points and Pete Lyons third with 36 points. The afternoon team event was won with a great score of 84 points by Gregg Secker and Pete Richards with the help of Ghost player Kenny Major. Nearest the pin was played for on the 15th and won by Kevin Mudge. The society retired to the clubhouse to enjoy some great food with Vice-captain Nigel Pope conducting affairs in place of Captain John Harris.
45th Anniversary
Places for the 45th Anniversary weekend at St Pierre in August 2025 are available for those who would like to come along and celebrate the NGS's 45 years. Details of the weekend can be found shortly on the 45th Anniversary page or contact the secretary, Nick Fry for more details.
Thurlestone
The third NGS golf day made a regular return to Thurlestone golf club in sunny still conditions, the course was as ever in superb condition. The individual round competing for the Colin Kent shield was a tight tussle with three golfers scoring 42 points, John Sanders pipped Andy Foster and Nick Fry on count back. The afternoon team event was a Texas Scramble playing for the Lew Thomas cup this was won by Malc Lyons, Tom Body and Pete Richards. Nearest the pin was played for on the 13th and won by Roger Jenkins.
Cricket St Thomas
The second NGS golf day took place at Cricket St Thomas, a first visit for the society. Only 17 golfers attended a tough challenge reflected in the days scoring. The individual morning round was won by Gregg Secker 32 points with Kev Mudge second on 29 points. The afternoon team round of two scores to count commenced in the only rain of the day which soon cleared to see vice-captain Nigel Pope lead his team of Kev Mudge and Steve Wilkinson to victory winning on count back with a score of 69 points. NTP on the 8th was one by Ricky Shazell and despite their being 5 par 3’s only one two was scored throughout the day well played Kenny Farquharson.
Trethorne
The first golf day of 2024 was played at Trethorne with 25 golfers taking part in bright sunny weather. The winner of the Vic Easton trophy with a great 37 points was Graeme “Worzel” Collings just pipping a fellow Old Git Ian Donald by 1 point, John Sanders was third also with 36 points. The afternoon 3-man team event with two to count on each hole was won by new Captain John Harris, Mark Lashbrook and Andy Field scoring 79 points. The nearest the pin was won by Lee Wearne on the 13th hole.
2023 - AGM
The 2023 AGM was held at the Plympton Conservative Club on Wednesday 29th November, with 12 members attending. The Committee were re-elected for another year. John Harris was voted in/confirmed as next years Captain and his Vice Captain will be Nigel Pope. Next year courses were voted on, with (in No particular order) Trethorne, Cricket St Thomas, Dainton Park, Thurlestone, Bowood Park chosen and Looe again being the Turkey Trot venue. Dates will be posted (Venue page) as and when known. NGS rule changes, to Society h/c and a £1 fee paid at each event with 50% to the winner and 50% to the Society voted in and will be include in the rules shortly. An Xmas golfing get-together at Launceston GC on 29th December was also confirmed. The 45th anniversary of the NGS in 2025 was also discussed, with again a weekend in August of that year to be held? Pete Fisher
It is with great sadness that I have to report the passing of another founder member of the NGS, Pete Fisher who died last Wednesday 1st November 2023. Unlike Mike Hind, Pete was still attending golf days and playing 36 holes and played in this years annual Turkey Trot at Looe finishing 2nd in a field of 27. Pete was a former Chairman of the NGS relinquishing his role in 2011 passing on the role to a younger member of the Society. R.I.P.
Looe BD
The final golf day of the season (Turkey Trot) at Looe BD was held on Friday 27th October 2023. 27 member attending saw a couple of heavy showers not putting too much of a damper on the day at Looe DB golf club. Another fantastic array of prizes where credit must go again to the Treasurer. Every player, as tradition, gets a prize in the order they finished. Scores ranged from 67pts to 34pts for the 27 holes played. The remaining prizes were then raffled off. But before the prizes were given out the Victor Ludorum & Old Gits overall trophies were presented to Steve Wilkinson and Raj Patel respectively. To end the day, the Captain thanked all of the members who had supported the society this year.
Mike Hind
Mike Hind, a founder member/former treasurer of the NGS (see history page) and Captain in 2004, passed away on Thursday 19th October 2023. Mike has not been to society days for quite a few years now due to ill health so would be remembered by the older members of our society more so than the younger ones. R.I.P.
Dartmouth
The fifth golf day of the NGS season had 25 golfers taking part on a autumnal day. A sunny start with a slight breeze changed to a showery day later on with the wind picking up late afternoon. Kenny Farquharson won the Andy Cowl Scratch Trophy with Mark Lashbrook (40pts) & Raj Patel (37pts) coming 1st & 2nd respectively in the stableford competition. The afternoon team event was won by S Bashford, M Mahoney, K Farquharson & T Body with 99pts. NTP on 18th was won by Nick Fry.
Stover
The fourth golf day of the NGS season had 30 golfers taking part on a Thursday instead of the usual Friday society day. A cloudy but dry day with moderate breeze on the new course layout saw Steve Wilkinson (38pts) beat John Sanders on countback. The afternoon team event was won by Mark Lashbrook, Paul Libby & Ricky Shazell with 75pts. NTP on 16th was won by Kevin Mudge.
Bude
The third NGS Golf Day of the season at Bude GC had 24 golfers attending. An overcast day (no rain) saw the field enjoying a good day for golf with tricky "Links" greens! The morning Individual competition was won by Brian Mitchell with a great score of 41pts taking the "Colin Kent Shield" beating Tom Body (38pts). The afternoon team event saw a 3 way tie, one under par score of 73pts winning the "Lew Thomas Cup" on countback (35pts) for Malc Lyons, Mike Mahoney & Graham Hall. NTP on the 8th was won by Malc Lyons.
Dainton Park
The second NGS golf day was played at Dainton Park in beautiful warm sunny conditions with 26 golfers attending. The morning round was dominated by the Old Gits finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Pete Lyons winning on 38 points from Graeme Collings and Pete Fisher on 37 points, Graeme winning on count back. New member Raj Patel was 4th with 36 points. The afternoon team event was played in teams of 3 with two scores to count on each hole, the winners with a magnificent 83 points was won by former captain Brian Mitchell, John Sanders and Raj Patel. Nearest to the pin on the 15th hole was won by Raj Patel to top off a great NGS debut.
Thurlestone
22 golfers took part in the first NGS golf day of 2023, with a couple of old members returning to NGS after a few years absence. A bright Sunny day with a slight north westerly breeze saw Thurlestone in excellent condition despite the heavy rain that had fallen earlier in the week. The morning round, for the "Vic Easton" shield was won by Andy Field with 38pts, just beating Steve Wilkinson (new member) who had 37pts. The afternoon round saw 7 x 3 ball teams (due to Ricky having other commitments) compete in a 3,2,1 re-occurring format with Ken Farquharson, Andy Field and Nick Fry winning on countback with 67pts. Nearest the Pin on the 17th was won by Brian Mitchell. A very enjoyable day with Thurlestone as usual providing first class hospitality.
Xmas Golf - Launceston
The annual Christmas get-together at Launceston GC went ahead on Friday 30th December 2022.
20 people turned up to enjoy Coffee/Tea & Bacon Bap, 18 holes of golf followed by Ham/Egg and Chips. Despite Heavy overnight Rain the golf course was open for play with reduced selection of clubs for those that had a Electric trolley and "Through the Green" rules were played.
2022 - AGM
16 members attended the 2022 AGM at the Plympton Conservative Club on Wednesday 16th November. The Committee had a change of secretary with Nick Fry taking over from Mike Mahoney who will remain as a committee member. Roy Turner has now taken over the reigns as Captain and as yet has not chosen his Vice Captain. Next year’s venues were picked and they are Dainton Park, Stover, Dartmouth, Thurlestone and Bude with the Turkey Trot at Looe Bin Down. Dates for these are now confirmed and can be found on the Venues page. An NGS rule change to rule 17. from 3 days to 7 days was carried unanimously. An Xmas golfing get-together at Launceston GC on Friday 30th December was also confirmed.
Tavistock
Our final NGS Golf Day of the season, the Turkey Trot at Tavistock GC saw 20 players compete in a 31 hole Individual competition (18 hole a.m. & 13 holes p.m.) where every competitor received a Prize. These were chosen from the prize table (see below) in the order players finished. Prizes included meat vouchers to the value of £50/£30/£20 as well as numerous bottles of spirits & wines along with tins/boxes of sweets and chocolates. Credit must go to the Treasurer for providing such a fabulous selection. Nearest the Pin was won by Tony Cusack. Prize positions/results can been found on the venue page. Before these were claimed the main presentation of the overall trophies took place. The Victor Ludorum was won by Mark Harrison (not present), with the Old Gits (over 65's) by Graeme Collings (see overall standings page). A great day was had by all those attending. The Captain, Brian Mitchell concluded the day by thanking all the members for their support during the year.
Dainton Park
The 5th NGS Golf Day at Dainton Park was attended by 24 golfers enjoying a fantastic course and great hospitality. The morning Individual competition saw Pete Fisher pip Mark Harrison on countback (back 9) with each scoring 40pts, while the "Andy Cowl" scratch trophy which was won by Ricky Shazell. The afternoon team event was won by Ian Donald, Mark Lashbrook & Jason Bellison with 69pts. NTP on the 8th was won by the Captain Brian Mitchell.
Carlyon Bay
The 4th NGS Golf Day at Carlyon Bay saw 25 golfers enjoying a wonderful day at this Cornish golf club. The morning Individual competition was won by Ricky Shazell, pipping Pete Lyons to the "Individual Champions Shield" on countback (back 9) with 39pts. The afternoon team event was won by Roy Turner, Mark Lashbrook & Ricky Shazell with 79pts. NTP on the 18th was won by Keith Newitt.
Bowood Park
Our third NGS Golf Day of the season at Bowood Park GC had 21 golfers attending. A glorious day, with wall to wall sunshine saw the field enjoying a perfect day for golf! The morning Individual competition saw Stewart Chinnery pip Roy Turner to the "Colin Kent Shield" with 38pts to 37pts. The afternoon team event produced some good score on the front 9 but with the heat and tiredness creeping in on the back 9 a one over par score of 71pts was enough to win the "Lew Thomas Trophy" for Captain Brian Mitchell, Kenny Major & Mark Harrison. NTP on the 6th was won by Mike Mahoney.
Thurlestone
Our second NGS Golf Day at Thurlestone GC had 22 golfers play. The morning saw the field get around without getting wet but the afternoon was a different story with the predicted bad weather seeing a few teams walk off the course early due to the wind & rain. Barry Hine won the Compton shield with 43pts with Andy Field coming 2nd with 40pts. The afternoon team event was won by John Harris, Mike Mahoney & Mark Harrison with 74pts beating the other teams that also completed the full 18 holes. NTP on the 17th was won by Ricky Shazell.
Taunton & Pickeridge
Our first NGS Golf Day of 2022 saw 25 golfers attend. A damp start to the day did not deter the group enjoying a memorable day, with Mark Lashbrook winning the Vic Easton Trophy with a par score of 36pts. This years captain, Brian Mitchell coming 2nd with 33pts beating a group of players scoring between 32-30pts (see venue page). The team event in the afternoon was won by Barry Hine, Andy Field and Mike Mahoney with 67pts. Nearest the Pin on the 16th hole was Paul Blackmore. On a tough day regarding scoring there was only one "2". This on the 7th, a par 4 hole by Tom Body.
Gordon JAMES
It is with great shock and sadness that I report that Gordon James, a very prominent/popular figure of the societies earlier years has suddenly passed away today (29/03/2022). Gordon was Captain in 1991.
Gordon's Funeral was held at Weston Mill Crematorium on Thursday 21st April at 11:30 followed by a wake at Staddon Heights Golf Club. As expected it was very well attended.
Taunton & Pickeridge
Our first NGS Golf Day of the 42nd season will be Friday 20th May 2022, at Taunton & Pickeridge GC. The secretary will be sending out an email at the beginning of April inviting those who want to attend to get their names to him. If you are not on the mailing list and would like to play please contact the secretary (contact details on home page). All other dates for the season can be found on the Venues page.
Launceston
The annual Christmas get-together at Launceston GC on Wednesday 29th December 2021 went ahead despite substantial overnight Rain! Coffee/Tea, Bacon Bap followed by 18 holes of golf then Ham/Egg and Chips after the round were enjoyed by the 17 people who attended.
2021 - AGM
20 members attended the 2021 AGM at the Plympton Conservative Club on Wednesday 17th November. The Committee were re-elected for another year, although the current secretary gave notice that this was going to be his last year and a replacement needed to be found. Brian Mitchell has now taken over the reigns as Captain and chosen Roy Turner as his Vice Captain. Next year’s venues were picked and they are Bowood Park, Thurlestone, Carlyon Bay, Dainton Park and Taunton & Pickeridge (postponed from 2021) with the Turkey Trot again at Tavistock. Dates for these have now been confirmed and can be found on the Venues page. NGS rule changes, mainly due to the WHS introduction were ratified and these can be found on the NGS Rules page. Lifetime membership was also granted to Pete Lyons & Pete Fisher for service to the society. An Xmas golfing get-together at Launceston GC on 29th December was also confirmed (see above).
Tavistock
The Turkey Trot at Tavistock on Friday 29th October 2021, went ahead despite some horrendous overnight rain with Winter rules "through the green" and all bunkers deemed GUR. 31 players attended and after an initial early morning shower the Sun came out and the weather stayed fine for the rest of the day. As with tradition, every person who played received a prize in the order that they finished. But before this, the overall Trophies for the year were awarded with Malcolm Lyons and Greg Secker picking up the "Victor Ludorum" & "Old Git's" respectively. Gerald Lovely had the pick of the days prizes with a very impressive total score of 68pts with Jason Bellison coming 2nd with 64pts. Nearest the Pin on the 7th green was Alan Holwill. Churston
The Churston golf day saw 21 golfers enjoy a lovely sunny day with very little breeze. The Andy Cowl Scratch Shield was won by Andy Field, with Mark Lashbrook (40 pts) and Nigel Pope (36pts) winning the 2 Stableford prizes. The afternoon Team event was won by Mark Lashbrook, Mike Bray and Roy Turner with a score of 76pts. The NTP prize on the 17th hole was won with an Ace (hole in one) by Roy Turner (see Hall of Fame). Bowood Park
24 golfers attended the societies golf day at Bowood. Malcolm Lyons romped home with 39pts to win the Individual Champions Shield with Mike Mahoney finishing ahead of the pack with 34pts to take 2nd place in the morning. The team event in the afternoon was won by Malcolm Lyons, Keith Newitt and Mike Mahoney with a score of 31 in a Medalford competition. Nearest the Pin on the 6th hole was Kenny Major. Thurlestone
33 golfers attended the societies golf day at Thurlestone. On a superb sunny day with a slight breeze, Tony Cusack won the Colin Kent Shield with an impressive 40pts with Jeff Hobbs coming 2nd with 39pts. The team event in the afternoon was won by Nick Fry, Jason Bellison and Tony Cusack with 76pts. Nearest the Pin on the 17th hole was Mike Mahoney. Dainton Park
30 golfers attended the societies golf day at Dainton Park. A great day was had by all with Kenny Major narrowly winning on countback (back 9) from Mike Bray. The team event was won with an impressive 81pts (with the help of a ghost player) by this years Captain Andy Taylor assisted by Pete Lyons, Mike Cusack and Kenny Major (ghost player). Nearest the Pin on the 15th hole was Nick Fry. Other results can be found on the venue/overall standings page.
Taunton & Pickeridge
Following on from below I can now confirm that our Golf Day has been postponed. The new date will be Friday 20th May 2022.
Weather not looking good for tomorrow (Friday) so the secretary will be contacting the GC later today to see whether the golf day will go ahead. Watch this space!

Taunton & Pickeridge and Dainton Park
Both of these events will be going ahead, with current lockdown guidelines dictating the way they can be held. This will be a little different to pre-pandemic golf days but hopefully at Thurlestone we will return to the norm! Due to a limit of 30 people at each of these events, a draw will take place if one/both of these days are oversubscribed.
Update: The deadline of midnight 31st March 2021, for people to reply to the secretary's email if they wanted to play in these golf days, has now passed. Of those that replied, 31 people wanted to go to Taunton & Pickeridge (so one non-member will dip out), while Dainton Park has 30.
Committee Zoom Meeting
The committee recently had a Zoom meeting to amend the Society's rules regarding the new WHS h/c that came into force last November. These rule changes can be found on the NGS rules page.

Society ties will be able to be purchased @ £13 each for those who have not got one. These will be available at the golf days but should be ordered in advance.
Launceston
The annual Christmas get-together at Launceston GC on Wednesday 30th December 2020 is CANCELLED. Due to the new strain of coronavirus, new government rules/regulations, course/weather conditions it has been decided that it was better not to go ahead with the event.
2020 - AGM
This years AGM has been cancelled by an EGM.
The EGM took place by email between the 25 x 2020 members.
As well as the AGM being cancelled, the other proposals saw the committee and officers continuing for another year, 2020 members have their membership transferred to 2021 at no extra cost and the secretary to arrange 2021 *golf days at his discretion.

Tavistock
A golfing get together went ahead at Tavistock GC, in place of the usual Turkey Trot this October.
32 players (Old & New members) took part in what was an enjoyable day with some great weather for the time of year which enabled some good scoring. Full results can be found on the Venue page.
NGS 40th Anniversary
The 40th Anniversary weekend eventually went ahead with 32 golfers attending the Forest of Arden.
In testing times regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, with social distancing etc. a great time was still had by all. Scores, start times etc. can be found on the Anniversary page and a special mention to the two Pete's (Lyons & Fisher) for donating (Founder Members prize) a bottle of Captain Morgan Spice for the person who finished in 16th position overall, with Roger Jenkins being the recipient.
Coronavirus (Covid-19) - 2020
Tavistock I am pleased to inform you that a golfing get together will go ahead at Tavistock GC,
in place of the Turkey Trot. This day will comprise of Coffee/Tea & Bacon Bap on arrival, 18 holes of golf and a Basket meal after. Nearest the Pin and 2's comp. will not be held. Please contact the secretary for further details if required. The draw for this golf day has been done and start times can be found on the Venue page.
Carlyon Bay have confirmed that our September Golf day is cancelled.
No new date for 2021 can be agreed.
Thurlestone have confirmed that our July golf day is now postponed.
The new date for this venue is Friday 16th July 2021.
Note: The committee has decided that All Trophies for this year will now not be
played for (due to Covid-19).
Dainton Park have now confirmed that our June golf day is postponed.
The new date for this venue will be Friday 11th June 2021.
Taunton & Pickeridge have confirmed that our May golf day is postponed.
The new date for this venue will be Friday 21st May 2021.
With the above pandemic and government guidelines in force, a committee decision has been made to provisionally book all of the current venues (2020) for a date in the same month next year (2021), should the need arise to postpone them. The secretary is in the process of contacting the venues and more information will be provided when received. Stay Safe, keep to the guidelines and hopefully we will be back to normal as soon as possible.

2019 - AGM
This years AGM was held at the Plympton Conservative Club on Wednesday 20th November. 21 members attended and the Committee were re-elected for another year. Andy Taylor has now taken over the reigns as Captain and chosen Brian Mitchell as his Vice Captain. Next year’s venues were picked and they are Thurlestone, Carlyon Bay, Dainton Park and Taunton & Pickeridge with the Turkey Trot again at Tavistock. The dates will be on the Venues page when confirmed with the Golf Club.
Tavistock (Turkey Trot)
The last golf day of the 2019 season held at Tavistock saw 24 people take part in the annual Turkey Trot! This event is held over 31 holes (18 a.m. & 13 p.m) where every player will get a prize from the table in the order they finished. Due to the weather some players did not play in the afternoon and some managed a few holes. Prize positions are shown on the Venue page, with Nearest the Pin on the 7th Hole being Gerald Lovely.
Stover
Our 5th event of the season saw the society enjoy another great day! The event at Stover Golf Club saw 27 golfers attend, with the weather a lot better than forecast. The winner of the "Andy Cowl Scratch Shield" trophy was Mike Mahoney with an excellent score of 41pts (net 27pts for scratch purposes), with Gerald Lovely (37pts) beating Alan Holwill on countback to take the two stableford prizes. The afternoon Team winners, playing the "Pink Ball" competition with another excellent score of 102pts were Mike Cusack, Gerald Lovely and Jason Bellison. Nearest the Pin was Mike Casey on the 2nd hole.
Dainton Park
Our 4th event of the season saw the society enjoy an great time at Dainton Park Golf Club. 28 golfers attended a lovely sunny day, with the winner of the "Individual Champions Shield" being Brian Mitchell with an excellent score of 41pts, beating Nigel Keeler on countback. The afternoon Team winners, with another excellent score of 88pts were M Cusack, K Newitt and M Mahoney. Nearest the Pin was Vice Captain Andy Taylor on the 15th hole.
Carlyon Bay
Our 3rd event of the season saw the society enjoy an great day at Carlyon Bay Golf Club. 29 golfers attended on a rather damp day, with the winner of the "Colin Kent Shield" being our ex Chairman Pete Fisher with 37pts, beating the current Chairman (Mike Cusack 36pts). The afternoon Team winners ("Lew Thomas Cup") with a excellent score of 87pts were M Bray, R Jenkins and N Pope. Nearest the Pin was Keith Newitt on the 5th hole.
Thurlestone
Our 2nd event of the season saw the society enjoy an excellent day at Thurlestone Golf Club. 29 golfers attended and on a tough course the winner of the "Compton Shield" was our Captain Nick Fry with 38pts (on countback). The afternoon Team winners with a very good score of 84pts were M Casey, J Harris and A Taylor. Nearest the Pin was Mike Mahoney on the 17th hole.
Bowood Park
Our 1st event of 2019 at Bowood Park Golf Club was attended by 23 golfers. The winner of the "Vic Easton" trophy was Mike Bray with 37pts from runner up Graeme Collings (see overall results). The afternoon team winners were Jason Bellison, Phil Mitchell and Dave Martin. Nearest the Pin prize on the 2nd hole was Ian Donald.
40th Anniversary

The 40th Anniversary weekend celebration in 2020 will be opened up once more (probably April, 2019) for people who have expressed a wish to attend. A non refundable deposit will be needed to secure the place (in pairs/Fours). If you are thinking about going this will be the only chance you get to join the 20 already committed to going! Tavistock Golf Day (Turkey Trot)
The last event of the season, the Turkey Trot was held at Tavistock Golf Club. 24 golfers played and enjoyed a wintery day (see venue page for scores) with everyone winning a prize. As usual the Victor Ludorum trophy and Old Gits trophies were presented (See trophy page for winners). A visit from Mike Hind (ex Treasurer) at lunchtime to see some old faces was a welcome surprise!
Downes Crediton Golf Day
Our 4th event of the 2018 at Crediton Golf Club was attended by 17 golfers. Nigel Keeler won the "Individual Champions" trophy with 38pts from runner up Jake Bellison (see overall results). The afternoon team winners were Andy Taylor, Steve Bashford and Martin Moore (Guest). Nearest the Pin was won by Alan Holwill on the 7th green.
Lanhydrock Golf Day
Our 3rd event of the 2018 at Lanhydrock Golf Club was attended by 18 golfers. Pete Martin won the "Colin Kent Shield" trophy with 41pts from runner up Pete Lyons(see overall results). The afternoon team winners of the "Lew Thomas" Cup were Dave Martin, Roy Turner and Barry Hine. Nearest the Pin was won by Mike Mahoney on the 15th green.

Torquay Golf Day
Our 1st event of 2018 at Torquay Golf Club was attended by 21 golfers. Graeme Collings won the "Vic Easton" trophy with 39pts from runner up Roy Turner (see overall results). The afternoon team winners were Graeme Collings, Dave Martin and Paul Meehan beating Andy Field, Roy Turner and Brian Mitchell on countback (77pts each). Nearest the Pin was won by John Sanders.
40th Anniversary
Venues and prices for the 40th Anniversary weekend to be held in August 2020 have now been finalised. Details of the weekend can be found on the 40th Anniversary page. If you would like to attend this celebratory weekend the cost will be £395 for 2018/19 members (£415 for non-members).
A non-refundable deposit of £95 to secure your place is required. This has to be with the Treasurer by the Wednesday 17th January 2018!

Next year’s venues were picked (Bowood Park, Churston, Crediton, Lanhydrock and Torquay with the Turkey Trot again at Tavistock) and the secretary is in the process of arranging the dates (these can be found on the venue page when confirmed with golf clubs, now confirmed).
A 40th Anniversary weekend celebration was agreed, with the secretary to source prices of some suggested venues as the Belton Woods proposal was possibly to far to drive within a day and play golf despite the very competitive price offered.
Tavistock (Turkey Trot) Golf Day - 2017
Another successful season ended with the annual Turkey Trot. This was again played at Tavistock Golf Club where 22 player enjoyed a warm sunny autumn day! As usual the secretary did the Society proud with an abundance of prizes including meat vouchers to the value of £50 & £30, golf umbrellas, shoes bags etc. Before the prize giving for the day started the overall trophies "Victor Ludorum" & "Old Gits" were presented by the captain to Mike Mahoney and Roy Turner respectively. The winner of the Turkey Trot was Jake Bellison with an impressive 64pts from the 31 holes played (all scores can be found on the overall standings or venue page).
Carlyon Bay Golf Day
The 5th golf day of the season saw 17 golfers enjoy a windy Carlyon Bay golf course. The Andy Cowl "Scratch" shield was won with a very impressive 33pts (net 24pts) by the new kid on the block Jason Bellison! Handicap winners for the day were Roy Turner with 34pts on count back (back 9) from Brian Mitchell. The final event of the season will be the Turkey Trot (see above).
Exeter Golf Day
The Exeter Golf day saw 22 players enjoy a lovely day with the morning round (Individual Champion) being won by Nigel Keeler with an outstanding score of 44pts! The afternoon round was a keenly contested with the eventual winners of the Lew Thomas Cup being the Captain (Barry Hine), Bruce Richards and Nigel Keeler. Crediton Golf Day
Unfortunately due to adverse weather conditions (Heavy rain) the Crediton golf day was cut short to a morning round only (see venue page for results). Consequently the ‘Lew Thomas’ team competition (due to be played p.m.) will now be played at our next golf day (Exeter – see above).

The final Golf Day of the 2016 season saw the Societies golfing year end at Tavistock Golf Club. It was played in what was a lovely sunny Autumn day. Tavistock again provided us with an exceptional day with the course in good condition and the food second to none. As with tradition, every competitor received a prize (in the order they finished) and the remaining prizes were raffled off.
The overall Trophies for 2016 were also presented by the Captain Jeff Hobbs to Malcolm Lyons (Victor Ludorum) and Barry Hine (Old Git's). Congratulations to both!

Tavistock (Turkey Trot)
The societies Turkey Trot at Tavistock was a fitting finale to the 35th year of the NGS.
A field of 31 players enjoyed a good day with conditions. especially the greens, favourable for the month of October.
A warm welcome was extended to us by Tavistock Golf Club where the food and hospitality were second to none.
The Overall Trophies (Victor Ludorum & Old Gits) were presented by this year’s Captain Graeme Collings to Barry Hine and Jeff Hobbs respectively.
Players were then afforded the luxury of picking a prize (from the £600 spent by the Treasurer) in the order they finished the day. The numerous prizes left were then raffled.

NGS 35th Anniversary Weekend
The Nuclear Golf Society will be celebrating it's 35th year in 2015! To mark this special occasion a golfing weekend has been planned for August 2015. This will be held at the Celtic Manor/Vale and include the August golf day of that year with the Twenty Ten course providing the venue for the 'Individual Champion' Trophy.
Friday 28th December 2012
The 2012 Christmas get together at Wrangaton Golf Club was attended by 9 members. Although Golf did not get played as planned (course closed - waterlogged), the members visited the 17th Tee to pay respect to past member Colin Kent and to sight the bench donated in his honour. Afterwards a hearty breakfast was had by all in the clubhouse.
