The world of Novendragos is unique in that it takes place on an alien tropical world orbiting a star brighter than our own sun. Placing the world in that star's solar system provided the opportunity to look at how life would evolve differently. Another unique aspect of the world is that it is coterminous with the elemental planes. Imagine what it would be like for a world to have another reality simply bleeding into it!
The world of Novendragos is also accessible like other campaigns. You may still play human characters and the themes of good versus evil and man versus nature are still very much a part of this living and evolving campaign.
Be assured that the goal here is to take you to brand new vistas where you explore life you have never seen before while still being able to play knights and wizards and rogues and rangers.
At the inception of the universe when the elements converged to become one with Novendragos the great platinum light of Vro'kahn appeared in the void. Vro'kahn's light warms and nourishes the planet while keeping Novendragos in a tight circular orbit. This bright white star sheds its light upon the planet from the Void which, along with the other elemental planes, is coterminous with Novendragos. No seasons exist on this planet as Novendragos' axis is perpendicular to its orbital plain. The unique relationship between Vro'kahn, the elemental planes, the triune moons, and the planet provides abundant energy for strange lifeforms to emerge.
Three other celestial bodies share an orbit with Novendragos around its sun. Dragonsbane is a planet of rock and fire. Human scholars who discovered it felt that the elements of Fire and Earth collided in the void to form it. Besara is next and like Dragonsbane before it is too rocky and hot to sustain life. The third planet Tashvar takes its name after the God of Judgement because without this giant orbiting Vro'kahn the planets would not sustain such perfect orbits.
Novendragos has three moons – Ki'rmaak, Amaya, and Indarra. Ki'rmaak and Amaya are each around 40% of the size of Novendragos and together they act as shields protecting the planet from meteoric bombardment. Each moon appears rather large in the sky with Amaya appearing two and a half times larger than the earth's moon. While Ki'rmaak is technically the larger of the two moons it is far enough away to appear only 50% larger than the earth's moon. Indarra is the smallest of the three moons and takes a quick orbit around Novendragos that lasts only 9 days.
Novendragos began as a planet of molten rock as fire and earth were the first elements to converge to create this planet. Much as a sword is forged upon the anvil Novendragos was first made malleable by the fire and then was cooled by elemental water and air. It rained for a thousand years when water and air were summoned to the fire and earth within the void. This caused the planet to cool and the heavier elements sank to the center allowing the lighter elements to be driven to the surface.
While the elements competed against each other the tectonic plates picked up in acceleration and where they met great mountains were thrust into the atmosphere. The elemental fire which was encased in earth struggled to break free. This created volcanic fissures beneath the oceans and huge volatile volcanoes on the mainland.
Due to the size and numbers of the moons an asteroid has only struck down on Novendragos once. This dense material pierced the planet in what is now the Bladewind Desert. In other cases the moons would absorb the impact of asteroids.
Novendragos has one continental landmass and one large island that take up approximately 46% of the world's surface. These landmasses ar e completely surrounded by water that makes up the world's three oceans – the Cerulean to the east, the Crown to the north, and the Girdle.
Novendragos has a hot and moist climate that, due to the 90 degree axial tilt, has no variation in seasons. Despite the fact that the world is 46% land there is ample water in the deep oceans and sufficient heat from the white sun to maintain a great degree of precipitation in the atmosphere. Mornings start off clear and very sunny, but through the course of the day clouds accumulate due to rapid evaporation. Showers occur frequently in mid to late afternoons.
One of the interesting features of the planet is that it has a low troposphere of only about 5 miles. Between the troposphere and the stratosphere lies another layer of atmosphere known as the dragosphere. Chiryu scholars learned of this interesting layer during one of their greatest technological revolutions. The dragosphere is where Novendragos conjoins with elemental Air and has properties synonymous with that plane. This allows chiryu airships, dragons, and other flying creatures to fly at terrific speeds. The temperature of this layer seems to even out with the lower levels of the troposphere too.
Due to the combining factors of hot climate, lack of seasons, and the conjoining with the elemental plane of water Novendragos receives a fairly high amount of rainfall across the world except in the desert. Heavy rainfall in locations such as the south and east coasts also produce stronger weather like tsunamis. Relatively speaking the weather in the north is considered calm.
Temperatures range from 85 to 100 degrees with cooler temperatures occurring at higher altitudes. The result is a world that consists primarily of tropical rainforest with dense foliage. Freezing temperatures occur only at the highest of altitudes. These peaks are too high to find people dwelling there. The amazing height also acts as a buffer against the moist winds on the coastal sides of the mountains. This is part of what produces the dry climate on the deep interior of the continent.
