Northants habitat and trends

Firstly i have summarised Northamptonshire and the 4 Natural character areas identified in the Northamptonshire Biodiversity Action Plan 2015-2020, that help define Northants wildlife.

Generally Water bugs are thriving in Northamptonshire which is similar to the European trend.   Roel van Klink, et all. (2019) found an average decline of terrestrial insect abundance by 9% per decade but an increase of freshwater insect abundance by 11% per decade. The recent work by DRUID (Drivers and Repercussions of UK Insect Decline) also points to an increase in Water bugs. Northamptonshire is following those trends and has benefited with more garden ponds, reservoir creation and habitat creation down the Nene Valley.
