2025 has added an extra 230 records to the data set, an increase of 47 from last year. This takes the total to 11710. iRecord was again the only data and verification source this year with some records also being verified from iNaturalist.
There were no additional species added this year, still recording 46 of the 67 species in the Water bugs group. With 7 Litter bugs and Shore bug species still being recorded from 28 on the UK list. We haven't recorded in anymore 10Km or 5Km squares this year. We are still recording in 43 of the 45 10km grid squares, just 2 more to go. We are also recording in 110 of the 128 5Km squares with most of those now missing only in the South of the county and around the edges of the county.
After looking for the last 3 years, this year we managed to re-find both Micronecta griseola and Micronecta minutissima at Islip bridge over the River Nene. As expected they were amonst filamentous algae oround bare earth at the rivers edge.
I ran a Water Bugs identification course at Pitsford this year using and proving new keys to help the identification.
The main recording effort was:
- Slab Pit survey after the Beaver Introduction - Kev Rowley and John Showers
- Sulby Gardens site survey - Kev Rowley
- Stortons Pit invertebrate surveying - Kev Rowley
- Wilson Pits Wildlife Trust survey - Richard and Gill Watts
- Pitsford monitoring of Walgrave Square Pond - John Showers, Simon Heyward
- Duston local patch surveying - Kev Rowley
- Wildlife Trust monitoring at Summer Leys and Irthlingborough - John Showers, Simon Heyward
- Extensive monitoring around Pitsford Reservoir - Kev Rowley
- Dogsthorpe Star Pit survey for the Wildlife trust Monitoring team
- Lilbourne ponds with the Northants Invertebrate group - Kev Rowley
- Graham Warnes is also undertaking a significant study of the water inverts at Yardley Chase. The data is being kept separately.
