What You Should Know About Telematics
Think of Telematics as an electronic supervisor with a stopwatch riding with you every day. Information gathered from your DIAD and sensors in the package car are combined to make a report on exactly what you did and when you did it during your work day. This management tool will be used to track your every move and its reports used as evidence if you do something that they suspect as steeling time or incorrect delivery methods. The following are elements that are measured.
Seat Belt Off Events: Any time your seatbelt is off and the package car is running.
How to avoid – Buckle first, unbuckle last. Don’t start or turn off the package car before this is done.
Seat Belt Distance in Miles: How far you drove the vehicle without seatbelt on. Measured to hundredths of a mile.
Recording in Travel: Pressing stop complete when package car is in motion..
Also records the speed of the package car at the time DIAD was in use.
How to avoid – Only use DIAD when the motor is shut off. Sheet and press stop complete at delivery point.
If you need stop information from your DIAD, pull over and shut off the motor before you retrieve it.
Recording While Idling/ Delivery while Idling: Same as above only the package car is running in park.
Total Idle Time: Motor is running but the package car is not in motion. How to avoid- Turn off package car as soon as it is safe to do it.
Bulk Head Open Events: Bulkhead door is open and engine in running.
Bulk Head Distance in Miles: Open bulkhead door while car is in motion measured in hundredths of a mile.
Total Backing Events: Any time you back up the package car, broken down by commercial and residential.
How to avoid- Only back when necessary. Stay out of residential driveways.
Total Backing Distance: Distance traveled in reverse, measured in feet and to the hundredths of a mile.
Back First Exceptions: Any time you back up the package car directly after starting the motor.
How to avoid- Back first or drive forward a short distance after starting car and then back.
Other measurements include: Long stops, Backing Speed, Harsh Braking, Residential Backing Events, Residential Backing Distance in feet, Residential Backing Time, Total Backing Time (all backing is broke down into business and residential), To/From Miles, On Area Miles, Total Miles measured by GPS.
This system also creates maps that show the direction of travel and records to the second when the stop was completed and the total time at the stop. It also evaluates if you were over or under allowed at each stop. Mapped reports highlight off trace events from address to address, seatbelt violations, lunch and break location, etc.
