The research in M3RG focuses on understanding the response of materials cutting through different length and time scales. For this, we rely heavily on machine learning and artificial intelligence along with physics-based modeling, and experiments. The overarching theme of our research group is to develop an end-to-end framework for materials discovery from design to deploy (see figure below). This involves solving several challenging problems in the areas of natural language processing, information extraction, atomistic simulations, continuum modeling, robotics, and experiments. We address each of these vertical both in isolation and in combination to address the grand challenge of accelerating and democratizing materials discovery. This approach can have a significant impact some of the grand challenges including climate change, energy, sustainability, and healthcare.
