Memorial Day Activities

posted May 15, 2017, 6:05 PM by Jack McNally

This is a reminder for scouts to participate in Memorial Day activities in their respective communities.  Go out and honor those who served our country and gave the ultimate sacrifice.

This year, Troop 67 has been invited to participate in 2 community Memorial Day events on Monday, May 29th.  One is an observance in Red Bank and the other is a parade in Fair Haven.  Please read about both events below:

Red Bank Memorial Day Observance:

For those who want to participate in the Red Bank Memorial Day Observance, please send a reply email to me, mclausing317@gmail.com to let me know.  Then on the morning of 5/29, please wear your Class A uniform and join Cub Scout Pack 670 and others at 10:30 am at the statue on 51 Monmouth Street in Red Bank (near the corner of Drummond Place).  In case of rain, the ceremony will move to the Elks Lodge.  The ceremony lasts about 60-90 minutes.  There will be a keynote speaker from the Army, musical performances and presentation of wreaths, including one from Troop 67.  The Elks Club will be offering hot dogs afterwards.

Troop 67 has been asked to participate by handing out programs to guests before the ceremony, join the Cub Scout Pack in leading the Pledge of the Allegiance during the ceremony and help clean up afterwards.

In addition, we are looking for Boy Scouts to volunteer to participate in the flag ceremony preceding the Pledge.   If you would like to volunteer to do this, please include that in your reply email and also plan to stay a few minutes at the end of the meeting tomorrow evening and the following Tuesday evening to meet with Mrs. Tessenholtz to learn what to do for the flag ceremony.

Fair Haven Memorial Day Parade:

For those who want to participate in the Fair Haven Memorial Day Parade, please send an email to John Hayes, jj.hayes1@gmail.com and copy me, mclausing317@gmail.com, on it.  Then on the morning of May 29, please wear your Class A uniform and join John and others at Fair Haven's Knollwood School (224 Hance Road) at 8:45AM on 5/29.  Everyone will then gather at the Third Street and Hance Road corner by the baseball field across from Knollwood School.  Scouts, baseball players, marching bands and others will be marching.

The parade starts at 9AM and ends around 10:45AM at Victory Park across from Fair Haven Hardware (corner of River Road and Fair Haven Road).  At least two scouts are needed to participate to present a floral wreath from Troop 67.

We hope to see some of you participate in either the Red Bank Observance or Fair Haven Parade.
