Nominations for the Stellhorn & Waldron New Jersey Studies Student Awards are
due June 1
The Stellhorn & Waldron New Jersey Studies Student Awards recognizes excellence in New Jersey studies. This award honors the outstanding and much-loved historians of New Jersey, the late Paul A. Stellhorn and Richard "Dick" Waldron.
This award is given in four categories:
High School Project in New Jersey Studies
Undergraduate Research Project in New Jersey Studies
Undergraduate Senior Thesis in New Jersey Studies
Graduate Student Research Project in New Jersey Studies
Submission Criteria
Project may be about any subject relating to New Jersey studies regardless of location of institution
Projects may be self nominated or by an advisor, but must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from an advisor that addresses the quality and originality of the submission
The project must have been created within the last three (3) calendar years
Materials must be received by Carla Cevasco at carla.cevasco@rutgers.edu by June 1
Evaluation Criteria
The project will be evaluated on its narrative strength, the thoroughness of its author’s research, and the analysis of the project’s subject. A nominated project should, therefore, tell a good story, explain its subject’s significance to New Jersey and how the subject has changed over time, and utilize a broad array of relevant primary and secondary sources.
NOTE: The NJSAA has established the Marc Mappen Student Research Scholarship to assist high school and undergraduate research and writing projects. Receipt of a Mappen Scholarship is NOT a requirement for the Stellhorn & Waldron New Jersey Studies Student Awards.
