Fred Phelps, Age 58, Dies
Fred C. Phelps, age 58, 914 S. 18th St., who operated an electrical refrigeration service in New Castle, died Wednesday night at 7:35 o'clock at the Henry County hospital where he had been since Oct. 23. Mr. Phelps was stricken with coronary thrombosis on Oct. 21.
Mr. Phelps was a member of the K. of P. lodge and of the Masonic lodge. He was a birthright member of the Friends church and spent his entire life in New Castle.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Neva Phelps; 1 daughter, Miss Phelps, and his father, Charles Phelps. His mother, Mrs. Cora H. Phelps, died a year ago.
The body was removed to the Stanley mortuary where friends may call after 7 o'clock this evening. Funeral services will be held in the Stanley chapel on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Jesse Stanfield will officiate. Burial will be in South Mound cemetery.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon for Dr. Carl E. Phelps of this city, who died Tuesday as the result of poison, self-administered. Utter and Ruppo have charge of the services. He left a sister here, a sister in Whittier, a brother in San Francisco and a widow, address unknown. He was said to have been separated from her for several years.

Funeral services for Mrs. Katherine Phelps, 63, of 348 S. Orangegrove Ave., will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Pierce Bros. Mortuary in Hollywood. Interment will be at Hollywood Cemetery. Mrs. Phelps died Saturday at Loran Sanitarium after a short illness. Born in New York City, she came to California 35 years ago. She was the widow of Fred M. Phelps, a real estate broker in Los Angeles for 50 years. She leaves a daughter, Miss Phelps of Los Angeles.

In 1853, the young couple came to Lee County, Iowa, then moved to Henry County, Iowa. Jonathan in civil war, volunteering for 100 days, then came home and was drafted. Hired a substitute. They have two children, both born in Indiana - Seth and Joseph J., Seth married Rose Miller. Joseph married Addie Lasinger. Joseph was a teacher for several years, then farmed. Has 4 children - Rudolph who is deceased, Fred, Carl and Maud. Jonathan Phelps still alive as of the writing of the book.
