Geospatial Analysis and Remedial Investigation Planning, Sand Bay Naval Station Formerly Used Defense Site, Great Sitkin Island, Alaska (FUDS)
Dates: 2015 to 2016 NGC Customer: Ahtna Engineering Services (AES)
NGC performed a historical geospatial analysis involving digital mapping of prior military impacts on Great Sitkin Island. The analysis resulted in a GIS and geodatabase for future use in planning the follow-on remedial investigation and future site cleanup work. NGC prepared a historical geospatial analysis report that included a detailed section describing geodatabase schema and attribution, spatial references, and a synopsis of the feature counts and feature types identified.
During the project, NGC supported the project team with detailed slide presentation components related to the GIS and geospatial analysis approach used during the project and presented the technical GIS approach at team meetings. Using the geodatabase, NGC produced figures for the follow-on Remedial Investigation Management Plan.

Remedial Investigation, Ocean Cape Radio Relay Site, Yakutat, Alaska (FUDS)
Dates: September 2015 to 2016 NGC Customer: Brice Environmental Services (BES)
NGC assisted Brice Environmental Services (BES) with GIS support to the field and office team, interpretation of site investigation data, and report figure development. NGC developed a project geodatabase compliant with the USACE 2011 Manual for Electronic Deliverables (MED) including elements of SDSFIE. NGC referenced historical imagery and as-built drawings to position follow-on soil borings at appropriate locations surrounding buildings that no longer exist. NGC’s analysis resulted in finding the locations of 1943 powerhouses not previously identified. Under a modification, NGC acquired existing geospatial data from USACE and prepared work plan and report figures in support of an investigation to use the ADEC Hydrocarbon Risk Calculator (HRC) for developing alternative cleanup levels for the Yakutat Air Base F10AK0606 RSA20 site.

Tok Fuel Terminal and Sears Creek Station Remedial Investigations, Haines-Fairbanks Pipeline, Alaska (Army Environmental)
Dates: 2014 to 2015 NGC Customer: Fairbanks Environmental Services (FES)
NGC was engaged by Fairbanks Environmental Services (FES) to support the development of planning documents for remedial investigations at the Tok Fuel Terminal and Sears Creek Station along the Haines-Fairbanks Pipeline route. NGC acquired existing data from USACE and prior contractors that performed work at the sites to develop a GIS for use in project planning and execution. NGC’s services included imagery and map rectification using survey data and other available spatial information, geospatial analysis resulting in geodatabase development for future project use, assessment of property/land records for evaluation of property ownership relative to investigation areas, and development of numerous figures for project work plans.

Kodiak Avgas Hill Remedial Investigation GIS Support, Kodiak Island, Alaska (FUDS)
Dates: November 2014 NGC Customer: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska District
NGC supported the USACE Environmental Engineering team at the Kodiak Island Avgas Hill FUDS site, where 64 Avgas USTs were buried over undulating bedrock. NGC developed the geodatabase for the project and prepared figures for the RI Report.

In addition to the examples shown above, NGC also developed geodatabases for the Sears Creek Station U.S. Army site and the Murphy Dome Long Range Radar Station U.S. Air Force site. As a former federal employee at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Alaska District, Gordon Osgood developed geodatabases, gained site knowledge and produced GIS work products for the following additional FUDS projects.
