COMPANY SUMMARY
Northern Geospatial Consulting, LLC (NGC) is an Alaska-based small business initiated in 2014 to provide customers with the advantages of using geospatial data and geographic information systems (GIS) in day-to-day project operations. NGC’s goals are to acquire, develop, and manage geospatial data, and to use that data in a GIS framework to support collaborative project teams, solve problems, reduce project costs, and improve project execution.
Thorough analysis of imagery and historical documentation by experienced personnel, prior to conducting field investigations, can improve the effectiveness of planning, data collection and decision-making. Field data is expensive, especially in remote Alaska. Identifying the geospatial components of field data, developing and managing that data in a geodatabase, and applying the information during environmental investigation and cleanup using GIS technologies can contribute to reduced costs, reduced data gaps, project success, and satisfied customers.
Project teams often include a collaboration of agencies and stakeholders with varying interests and include multiple contractors and subcontractors over time. Project phases may extend through multiple years and even decades, and team members change during long-term projects. Careful development and management of geospatial data acquired during a project, and use of data to answer questions and solve problems, improves communication and project decision-making over the long term.
STAFF
The owner of NGC, Gordon Osgood, has 33 years of experience conducting environmental investigation and cleanup work in Alaska, with the past 20 years applying GIS technologies to environmental and civil works projects. Mr. Osgood’s environmental engineering experience includes extensive field data collection, remedial investigation and remedial action design and implementation, technical writing, cost estimating, federal contracting, and project management. Mr. Osgood’s GIS experience includes imagery analysis and rectification, digital mapping and geodatabase development, contaminant plume modeling, and historical geospatial analysis to develop geodatabases as tools for planning and implementing remedial investigations and cleanup projects at Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS). Mr. Osgood uses the unique combination of his environmental engineering experience and GIS experience to assist in planning and implementing investigation and cleanup projects. He provides real-time support at inter-agency meetings/conferences and technical project planning workshops to assist collaborative teams in moving projects forward.
