On 21 May 2010, Nga Kairauhii hosted a Marae Whanau Ora hui at Omahu Marae. Despite the rain and cold, there was excellent attendance from our Marae whanau, especially our kaumatua. Ngati Upokoiri and Ngati Hinemanu gave an awesome powhiri for our manuhiri tuarangi (Kevin Snee), and there were some tatai hono (whakapapa linkages) to the Snee whanau from Takapau. After the mihi/karakia (Haami Hilton), Areta Te Huia gave a history of tNga Kairauhii Trust whilst Mane Adams gave an update on the Trusts activities. Bayden gave a background of the Marae Wellbeing Project, and presented conclusions from NKT's 'Ko Te Marae Te Matatiki- Marae Health Research Project.
Kevin Snee, the new CEO, of HBDHB then stood to speak. Kevin introduced himself, his whakapapa, then he gave a presentation about the DHB past and current position and the future outlook toward the DHB mangement, services, and health providers. The key messages were that 'the big discussions should be about what we are doing with the $400m (secondary services and primary care) rather than focusing on the margins (Maori Health). We need to be focused on clinical outcomes rather than outputs. We need to work together.
Kahuranaki Trust gave a presentation on their services to kaumatua. Johnny Apatu was given a 'slot' to present his mau rakau wananga...Te Whare Tu Taua o Ngati Kahunungu, and the final speaker before lunch was Raniera Bassett, from NZ Food Safety Authority. Each of these presentations were excellent! Raniera presented 'Certificates of Attendance' to Te Kai Manawa Ora, Marae Food Safety Workshop, to marae. There were 17 certificates to present, 16 marae were present to receive certificates, and 5 people who representated other marae requested certificates. Each marae were eligible to receive the Marae Food Safety resource book. There were 60 people who signed the attendance register, majority signed as representing one or two marae. Marae were given the opportunity to showcase past, present, and future initiatives on marae. Displays were presented by Waipatu, Kahuranaki, Runanga, Waimarama, and Mihiroa Marae.
