Getting Started
Scouting 101
7. In Closing
When is a good time to get started?
Like most Cub Scout Packs, we go year-round with only a few events in the summer months You can become a scout at anytime. Just contact our Cubmaster or the Den Leader in your age group - or, just show up at one of our meetings.
When do we meet?
Pack Meetings (when all of our scouts, 1st-5th grade, get together in the same place - with the Cubmaster) are normally held on the third Tuesday of each month at Faith Lutheran Church in Waconia. Always check the Pack calendar for updates.
Den Meetings (when just one age group meets - with the Den Leader) are normally held once a month. Check with your den leader for specific dates, times, and location.
In addition to Pack Meetings and Den Meetings, we usually have one Pack event scheduled for each month of the year. This would include service projects, hikes, camping, etc.. See the Activities page or Calendar for specifics. All events are completely optional, but we encourage everyone to attend what they can to contribute to our success and the camaraderie with the boys.
What is the Cost of Joining?
First - don't let the cost scare you off. It's not that expensive and our Pack is able to assist if you need help. The person to see about assistance is the Committee Chair. This will be kept between you and them but you can tend to that later.
Second - The annual fee is around $30.00 and the appropriate handbook is under $10.00. A new uniform runs around $20.00 but the shirt is good for several years, so uniform costs do go down as you move through the ranks.
Third - Most Pack events do not have any fees associated with them. The area camps that we attend in the Fall, Winter, and Summer do have a cost associated with them, but it is well worth it for the experience the boys (and parents) get from the events.
We are not worried about the fees being paid up front. We can work with you. Scouting is actually quite reasonable considering all that your son will be doing throughout the year. Don't let the cost get in the way of your decision.
