Wearing the Uniform
In general, every Cub Scout should wear their uniform to all Cub Scouting activities, including den and pack meetings, unit outings, and any activities done with members of the den or pack. The Blue Cub Scout Uniform (or blue Lion t-shirt for Kindergarteners) is called the Class A Uniform.
When playing sports, going to camp, or participating in other physical activities, a pack may opt to have the Cub Scouts wear an alternate uniform, such as the pack t-shirt. These are sometimes referred to as Class B Uniforms.
Class A Uniform for 1-5th Grade
Class A Uniform for Kindergarten (Lions)
Class B Uniform (Pack T-shirt) for all Scouts
Pack leaders should provide advance notice of any occasion when the boys should wear anything other than the complete uniform.
Here are some tips for wearing the uniform:
DO keep the uniform clean and in good repair. The official uniform is a sturdy, machine-washable garment that will last for years with proper care.
DO be sure to wear the complete uniform. A Cub Scout wearing a uniform with parts missing is not in uniform.
DO NOT wear non-BSA badges, awards, or insignia on the Cub Scout uniform or make any alterations to the uniform or insignia.
DO NOT mix uniform parts with non-uniform clothing, such as wearing a uniform cap with other clothing or wearing the uniform shirt with blue jeans. The uniform should be treated as a unit—worn in its entirety, or not at all.
Any time you are uncertain about uniform regulations, ask the den leader for guidance.
Where to get your uniform:
Uniforms can be purchased at any scout shop or online at https://www.scoutshop.org/
The closest scout shop is at Base Camp (6202 Bloomington Rd, Fort Snelling, MN 55111)
Class A uniforms must be purchased, however the Class B uniform is provided for free by the Pack.
For the neckerchief slide, we reccomend using the generic scout slide, instead of the rank specific cub scout slide. This will cut down on the cost of having to buy a new one each year. (see below)
Kindergarteners (Lions) do not wear the blue button up uniform. Their official class A uniform is the blue Lion t-shirt, worn with or without the lion scarf.
Uniform: Approximately $40-$60 (note: most scouts use the same shirt for the entirety of their Cub Scout journey)
Required: Shirt, belt, neckerchief and slide
Optional: hat, shorts/pants, socks
Shop staff will help you get all the correct patches for your shirt.
They have a lot of expertise so we recommend buying your uniform at the store vs. online so they can answer all your questions and get you what you need
At each pack meeting we will have a uniform swap table set-up so you can pick-up any uniform items you may need for FREE as well as drop off any gently used uniform items that your scout has either outgrown or no longer needs.
