Nellie Jane Neighbors Bloomfield Coss Graham

Mayo Joseph Bloomfield and Nellie Jane Neighbors

This Living Digital Memorial is intended to connect the rich lives of the Bloomfields to the various families and friends resting at Evergreen Cemetery in St. Augustine. The Bloomfield are related though maternal lines to Neighbors and Francis families.

My Mother, born Nellie Jane Neighbors, was 87 years old when she passed. She is now at Evergreen, close to her parents and extended family. She always insisted on being as close to her parents a possible. I would like to thank Evergreen Cemetery for respecting her wishes. She always spoke fondly of her parents and looked forward to her day of rest at Evergreen Cemetery. It is there where many of our family members are commemorated. This wiki web site features a map of Evergreen Cemetery which is intended to help visitors spatially identify family or friends and share their stories. As this memorial is fresh, it will no doubt change and evolve.

Vivacious Nellie

Nellie had a rich life and kept company with a host of family and friends. She celebrated her time by traveling and, for a short time, living abroad. She often went out of her way to include others into her experiences and always appreciated good company. She struggled to get along with what she called "negative" people. Nellie is missed.

"If Aunt Nellie was visiting and you didn't a lick of charisma between anyone in your group, she brought some with her..."

                                                                                                                                                                                Paul Stewart June 25, 2013

Nellie now rests with my Father, her first Husband Mayo Joseph Bloomfield. Mayo was a WWII Veteran. Like so many couples prior to the War, Mayo and Nellie were high school sweet hearts that got caught up in an emotional whirlwind, the effects of which are still felt to this day though their legacy. The things they contributed in their work and play long remain in the culture that survives them. The American spirit is a part of that gift.

Nellie Jane Neighbors was born March 27, 1924 in Blytheville, Arkansas. She was the youngest of seven siblings and described herself as the runt of the family. Her family moved to the Cowan Swamp west of St. Augustine where they farmed when she was less than a year old. She admired her parents Pallas Love Neighbors (named after Colonel Smoloff Pallas Love) and Mother Mary Ann Francis and described them as the most caring, gentle souls that ever walked the face of the earth. When I think about her words, I find all sorts of temperaments across the family personality spectrum. But in those genetic paths, trends do emerge. I can see these traits and temperaments among the crowd. Thank the Lord.

Being the youngest of Nellie's six children, and Mother the youngest of seven in her clan, I am the youngest first cousin of the Pallas Love Neighbors clan. I believe it is only right to offer a unique perspective of Nellie's life and hope others will join in to tell their stories and offer their gifts to this treasure. It is my privilege to organize this wiki web site that shares our family folklore in my Parents honor.

The Neighbors Family Reunion wiki web site is available to Family members to share their family stories.  I ask that you make this effort a living memorial by adding your personal touch. Just select  the "Site Manager"  option on the left hand margin to contact the web site manager for information and access to the PLNeighbors Family Reunion website complex. It is my hope that future generations will carry on this effort to share family folklore unique to their experience.
