Living in Spain

I felt like I was in the movie "Raiders"...it's been 40 years since my parent bought this hand-painted Portuguese set while living in Seville Spain. Each tile is still wrapped in a yellowed, parchment type of paper, stacked in 3 creates.

The art is a grid layout of A-N, 1-11

Perhaps it was Dr. Lyon that told them about the heritage legacy of the Sant Anna business that convinced them to visit the factory. It certainly was and is an opportunity of a lifetime.

I can remember my Parents being excited about this purchase, sharing their newly gotten gains with their new friends, "the Lyons", Dr. Gene, Mrs. Dottie  Lyon.  They really enjoyed the trek to the factory, through the frontier from Seville  to the factory in Portugal.

Each tile approximately 5.5", 160 tiles in all.

That means 11(5.5) x 14(5.5)= 61" (around 5 feet) by 78" (little bit under 6 & half feet) in size.

Condition is good with a repaired crack on two and chips here and there.

And the adventure in visiting the main "calle" or thoroughfares of Seville, near the Archives and the Telephone Company were Dr. Gene first came to my parent's rescue.

A black cloud of a language barrier was a significant problem for my folks when they first got to Seville. My parents were struggling to make an overseas phone call home and it was Dr. Gene that must have overheard the ruckus and intervened on their behalf.

As I was unpacking the crates and thinking of that time so long ago, I was taken back by the great company we kept in our friendships overseas, how refreshing the change of lifestyle, food and music were.
