North East Citizens Action Association (NECAA) is a volunteer‑driven group of neighbors working together to build community pride and strengthen the place we call home. Our goal is simple: to enhance and preserve a safe, attractive, and prosperous neighborhood where everyone can live, work, and play.
We believe in connecting neighbors, supporting local businesses, and creating a community where people feel informed, welcomed, and involved.
NECAA has been active since the 1980s, when rapid urban development inspired residents to come together and shape the future of our neighborhood. Today, we represent more than 2,000 households and over 11,000 residents across a vibrant, diverse area of northeast Grand Rapids.
Within our borders, you’ll find:
Parks and green spaces (more than any other area in the city!).
Public and private schools, universities, and the Kent ISD.
A library, fire station, community garden, and local businesses.
Grocery stores, retail, dining, and light manufacturing.
Public transportation, bike lanes, and quick access to I‑196 and M‑44.
We’re less than fifteen minutes from downtown, the Medical Mile, and the airport - offering the best of city convenience with the feel of an established, people‑friendly neighborhood.
North: Knapp St.
South: I‑196
East: M‑44 (East Beltline)
