Host Site Application

2015-2016 Host Site Application Information

Who can apply to host a VISTA?
NC Campus Compact member campuses may apply with a community partner OR community-based organizations may apply with a member campus partner. VISTAs should spend time on-site regularly with both partners.

If our site currently hosts a VISTA, do we need to re-apply?
If your site currently hosts a Campus Compact VISTA, you must complete the continuation application below, including a new VAD.

What kinds of projects can NC Campus Compact VISTA members support?
VISTA placements should support creation or expansion of projects that utilize campus/community partnership(s) to address ONE of the following focus areas:

  • Economic Opportunity – projects that provide housing or financial literacy services to low-income people.
  • Education - projects that advance K-12 success for at-risk students through mentoring, academic support, or whole-school partnerships.
  • Healthy Futures - projects that improve access to nutritious food for low-income individuals and communities.

VISTAs may also organize events for national days of service, including MLK Day of Service. For a list of current host sites and project descriptions, review this VISTA VIEW Blog post.

What are the costs of hosting a VISTA?
The 2015-16 host site administrative fee will be $4500 per placement, paid to NC Campus Compact by July 1. Host sites must also set aside funds to cover or reimburse members for local, business-related travel costs and professional development. Host sites must designate a VISTA supervisor to oversee the member's day to day work and provide work space and supplies necessary for carrying out duties. Optional: host sites may provide supplemental housing support to members following VISTA guidelines. VISTA member living stipend and education award are paid directly to the member by the Corporation for National and Community Service.

How does my organization apply to be a host site?

Submit a Letter of Intent to Apply by Dec. 31, 2014.
The letter should be on letterhead and sent as an email attachment to Chad Fogleman, VISTA Program Coordinator, at cfogleman2(@) Letter writers are encouraged to cc your site’s “authorizing official” on the email. (The authorizing official is the person who will eventually sign the Memorandum of Agreement and authorize transmission of funds). The letter should:

  • state your organization’s intention to apply (or re-apply)
  • say how many VISTA positions your site would seek
  • state the project focus area(s) (healthy futures/ education/ economic opportunity)
  • briefly describe what you’d expect the 2015-16 VISTA placement(s) to accomplish, including expected campus/community partners
