Dear SIGSIM member

You will be delighted to know that ACM Special Interest Group on SImulation and Modeling (SIGSIM) are in the process of launching a new website; the vision is to make the website a key resource for all things modelling and simulation. In pursuance of this objective, I am joined by Osman Balci (who is the present designer and the editor of the SIGSIM website) to develop an action plan that would create a new M&S Knowledge Repository (MSKR), integrate the old SIGSIM content with MSKR, and ensure that we have a sustainable strategy in place for the development and sourcing of educational/learning videos. With regard to the latter, we are in the process of developing professionally-made content which will provide an overview of M&S and its application areas; the aim here is to generate interest among those who wish to know more about our field. In cohort, we are developing a video sourcing strategy for short education/learning videos (less than five minutes in duration) that is more technical and covers topics ranging from "Gaussian distribution" and "Petri nets" to "Agent-Based M&S".

We need your help!

As subject matter experts in M&S we are cordially inviting you to develop the short educational and learning videos which will be integrated with the new site. The videos can be created using standard screen capture software (like CamStudio, Screencast-O-Matic and Camtasia Studio) or it could be filmed and edited content (including lectures and demonstrations). The authors of the videos will be given the credit for their contribution through the MSKR web pages. We will include the name(s) and affiliation(s) of the authors at the start and the end of the video – using a set MSKR template. The authors may have to transfer copyright (Permission and Release Form for Video/Audio Submissions) to ACM.

Next steps …

If you are interested in contributing to this effort we would request you to first contact the Associate Editors of the SIGSIM M&S Knowledge Repository - Saikou Y. Diallo (sdiallo@odu.edu) or Navonil Mustafee (navonil.mustafee@gmail.com) – with the topic/list of topics that you would be interested in creating the videos for!

If you are an M&S consultant or are involved in marketing/development of M&S software and you are interested to develop the short videos, then please contact either the Editor-in-Chief of the SIGSIM M&S Knowledge Repository Osman Balci (balci@vt.edu) or contact me directly.

I look forward to receiving your contribution and making the ACM SIGSIM MSKR a great success!

Thank you

Paul
