September Events
September Paddle
Gary Stocker will lead the September paddle on the Withlacoochee River.
Date: Tuesday, September 9, 2025
Time: Meet at 8 am, launch by 8:30 am
Location: Goldendale boat ramp, 12199 N Goldendale Ave, Dunnellon, FL. There are no rest rooms where we launch, but there are restrooms at the Withlacoochee City Hall Boat Ramp. Parking is limited along Goldendale Ave, therefore the group size will be limited to 12 vehicles. There will be a wait list in case of cancellations.
Directions: From Hwy 41 (Florida Ave) turn east on CR 488, Dunnellon Ave, at the light just south of the Withlacoochee River. Go about 3 miles (watch for brown boat ramp sign) and turn right (north) onto N Goldendale Ave. Continue to the river ramp, off load your boat(s) and park along the fence. If anyone parks on the side street, W. Ivy St, be aware of “No Parking” signs because this area is patrolled.
Description: We will go upstream on the Withlacoochee River from the Goldendale ramp to the Rainbow River where we will go a short distance up-river and loop around the boathouse bridge near the rookery mini-island before returning to the Withlacoochee River. This 10 mile paddle should take about 4 - 4.5 hours. This is longer than our usual paddle, so be sure that you can paddle the full distance.
A few paddling reminders:
Most paddles are suitable for intermediate kayaking skills that can handle 3 - 6 miles over 2- 3 hours, in sometimes windy and choppy water. A Touring kayak is most suitable. If you have any concerns, contact the paddle event leader prior to arriving that morning.
Stay with the group: Let the leader lead! If you must depart before the end of the paddle let the Leader or Sweep know.
Please !!! don't enter the water before the Leader gives the ok at the pre-launch meeting. Don't crowd the launch area and be courteous to other boats.
Required safety gear:
PFD and communication devices are required to have with you on your vessel (i.e.whistle, walkie-talkie, marine radio, cell phone) You are responsible for your own safety.
Also recommended is a First Aid kit and a tow rope. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen and insect repellant
Lunch: Swampy’s Bar and Grill
RSVP: Gary Stocker, pepperpothead@gmail.com or 352-586-2641 and indicate if you will stay for lunch.
NOTE!
If you are ill or have a medical condition that might put you or others at risk, please don't participate in this activity. Hopefully you can join us when you are recovered.
