The Witches' Brew
The Rivalry Lives! Salem vs. Beverly 2000.
It's that time of year again, the Super Bowl champion Salem Witches are preparing to face-off against their long time rivals, the Beverly Panthers, in the 102nd Thanksgiving Day game. This will be the culmination of what coach Sean Gallagher sees as a successful season.
The season started off shaky due to injuries suffered by some of Salem's key players in the first five games. Since then, though, things have been looking up for the Witches. The players have been healthy and the team has been playing well. Coach Gallagher says he "attributes his team's success to the captains and seniors."
These athletes, which include key senior players: Chris Felton, Lito Gonzalez, P.J. Boch, Anthony Valdez, Derek Sprei, and Hugh Galligan, are accompanied by junior standout Dewayne Penn, who had a record setting game against the Danvers Falcons at Bertram Field.
Salem and Beverly carry similar records into the Thanksgiving Dat game. Salem on the contest last year, 14-0, at Bertram Field in Salem, and coach Gallagher would like to see the same crowd support that he has seen all year. He commented, "Salem pride is back in the school... [The] support makes a difference." To carry this same crowd support into the Thanksgiving Day game, coach Gallagher encourages all the students and faculty of Salem High to go to Hurd Stadium in Beverly, and bring the noise for the Witches.
