Dr. Narmeen Zakaria Bawany is a Professor of Computer Science and the Founding Director of the Department of Computer Science at Jinnah University for Women, Karachi, Pakistan. With over 20 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic administration, she is currently serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Science at Jinnah University for Women. She earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (FAST-NUCES), Karachi, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi.
Under her strategic leadership, the Department of Computer Science has successfully launched several academic degree programs, including BS (Computer Science), BS (Software Engineering), BS (Data Science), MS (Software Engineering), and PhD (Computer Science). She has also led the development and deployment of major institutional software systems, contributing to significant advancements in digital transformation at the university.
Her research areas include Artificial Intelligence, Smart Cities, Human-Computer Interaction, Cloud Computing, Blockchain Technology, NFTs, Deep Learning, Cyber Security, and Software-Defined Networking. She has authored more than 60 research publications and has supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate research theses and projects. She has also designed and delivered specialized training programs, including AI for Biological Sciences, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between computing and life sciences.
Dr. Bawany is also the Founding Chair of two major international academic forums hosted annually by Jinnah University for Women: The International Conference on Biological Research and Applied Science (IBRAS) and the International Conference on Cybersecurity and Digital Defense (ICyDD). Through these flagship conferences, she has played a pivotal role in cultivating a research culture, promoting scientific dialogue, and strengthening academic networks in Pakistan and beyond.
A strong advocate for women’s empowerment in technology, Dr. Bawany continues to inspire, mentor, and lead women in computing toward impactful careers and leadership roles.
