All assignments are due at the beginning of class. You can always revise work within one week to get additional credit. Late assignments will get less credit, and you can only turn in assignments up to one week late. See syllabus for more details.
This page serves two purposes:
1) Scaffolded responsibility: students suffering from absences, tardies, and lost work must come here on their own to determine what they missed, but everything is here for them.
2) Parent involvement: parents can check to see what homework their students have each night and what is going on in class. They can even subscribe to the assignment rss feed and receive updates in their reader or email. The link to SchoolLoop (or similar grade-tracking software) provides parents with another opportunity to stay involved in their students' progress, as they can see at a glance which assignments the student has missed (of course, this assumes the teacher is diligent in updating grades).
For both purposes, some amount of training at the beginning of the year would be required and the teacher should be ready to provide additional support, especially for parents who may not be as familiar with technology as some.
