Winter Bird Monitoring Program (2025-26)

INVITATION: Single Day Mid-winter Bird Census 2026

Please get ready for the 40th Mid-winter Bird Census on 18th January 2026. Mysore Birders have been spotting and recording winter migratory and local waterfowl in and around Mysore during the third week of January. Our gratitude goes out to those who started this program back in 1987. The valuable data collected has been instrumental for various conservation efforts, while us bird enthusiasts have gained a deeper appreciation for the avian life in our region.

•  This year's Single Day Mid-Winter Census is scheduled for Sunday, 18 January 2026. Please note that we have streamlined the number of lakes, focusing on those with consistent counts over the years. Set aside a day for this season’s bird census and feel free to choose your preferred partner & route.

•  We have planned 24 routes; over the years normally volunteers cover 15-18 routes on a single day; those who are free and interested can opt and cover the balance routes on Saturday 17 th January 2026.
