Heywood Rolling Stock

As I was building Heywood-designed locomotives I had to have his designs of rolling stock to run with them. Fortunately, there are some commercially available and the first ones I built were little 4-wheel open coaches, from a kit available from Pepper 7.

The four kits from Pepper 7, built much as intended, at the Stable Yard on Berger Hall 1900.

Smallbrook Studios, who produce the Katie loco kit, also have a kit for the Heywood 'Tops' - 4-wheel open wagons with sides that can be removed to make a flat wagon if required. I bought two, built as per the instructions, and seen here with loco Kaffie in Stable Yard.

Smallbrook Studios also sell the chassis from the 'tops' wagon as a separate item, and I used one as a base for the Heywood Guards wagon. The wagon was too tall to get through the holes in the backscenes of Berger Hall 1900, but is fine on the Berger Hall Miniature Railway - here in Stable Yard. The Smallbrook molding has very good representations of the Heywood axleboxes.

I also used the Smallbrook Studios chassis as the base for a bigger 4-wheel coach - just a double version of the earlier coaches. As with the Guards wagon, the body is built from styrene sheet, so a little weighting was needed for both these light bodies.

There is an album of photos showing the small coaches and guards wagon here www.flickr.com/photos/149926300@N07/albums/72157703032102965/with/37780893812/
